Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
If AA isn't for you then don't go. If it helps you, then go to open meetings.
I do not go to AA and I do not follow their rules. I follow my own rules. The rule that works for me is to not drink. Much easier than worrying about whether I am going to drink too much or dealing with hangovers, etc. -- especially since I could not moderate my drinking. I feel much more at peace as a nondrinker than I did as a drinker. But that's just me.
You might want to check out different groups like Moderation Management. (Please note that I would NEVER suggest moderation management for anyone who knew they could not control their drinking and wanted to quit.)
Wouldn't you prefer to live instead of surviving - it doesn't sound very attractive to me?
