hi im wondering does any one else come out of meetings feeling like a freak. I go to my meetings an talk about my emotions an people look at me as if i have two heads. I find it hard to listen to this surface bullshit how great life is since people have got off the drink, i dont believe it either, dont get me wrong my life has improved 100% since i came to aa in ways, but in other ways it has been unbelievably painful, having to look at the person i really am not the person i think i am. I refuse to delude myself an talk about life as if its all fairys an bubbles since i got sober because the reality is its a feckin rough ride an if your alcoholic an have the same head that i've got problems are never to far away.
I hear people saying "i have had a wonderful peaceful day a i dont suffer with resentments anymore" an yet their bubbling in the room with resentment. I just dont get it, why not jus spit it out. I dont mean to sound judgmental but i feel like im being judged for trying to share honestly.

Share honestly anyway.Try different meetings,all of them are a little different.It does hurt sometimes when we begin to find the person that booze has pushed back into the shadows.Stay positive,it all doesn't get rosy overnight.

Right on, brother. If you're not honest you will go back out there.
You may be one of the ones that make it because of your honesty.
My sponser demands three things; a real clean date, "honesty", and willingness.
Keep it real, no reason to sugar coat anything!

I kind of know what you mean. I think everyone feels like an idiot at times in those meetings. However, it was when I looked for things that people were saying that I could relate to that I found the meetings of benefit. There are so many kinds of people in AA for so many reasons, it wasn't until I sought out those who seemed genuinely moving forward that I benefited.

I think that you need to focus on the positive and try to forgive and forget the negative. Of course there are people who are full of shit, they are everywhere and we alcoholics are a particularly wacky bunch. A lot of people too say things to fit in and because they think it is what others want them to say. However, there is a lot of people in the meetings who are sincere too. Everyone is at different points in their sobriety, and not everyone attends AA for the "right" reasons.

yea it sucks when you feel like you can be totally honest and express what you're feeling and thinking, you think others will judge what you say or not want to hear it. You should be able to be fully honest with what you're going through. Maybe you're insecurity makes you think they are looking at you like you have two heads? I believe people should talk about the negative and the struggles as well as the positive because if it's all about recovery and being positive then alot of people will feel out of place and not want to go because when you're newly sober, you are struggling and angry and depressed and scatter brained and want to talk about the past sometimes and get things out, the guilt etc. expressing whatever you're feeling or thinking. And it should all be accepted in a noncritical, nonjudgemental way. Should never be made to feel stupid for anything you express or any questions you have. keep being you , don't think about what others might be thinking. good luck

I almost 4 years sober came in at 24 here is none my age in my area that also leaves me isolated im heading to a meeting to nite where i dont ever feel welcome an i have resentment towards some of the members i am sitting here fighting with them in my head i have to go to it as there are no other meetings in my area. I
feel very angry tonight.

It's tough when you only have one meeting to choose from. I would just be honest and save any personal stuff for your sponsor. One thing that pushed me back out drinking was resentments. The are the number one offender for us.

There is one woman I see sometimes at meetings and I have gotten resentments listening to her and forgave her and got a new one and got rid of it and prayed for her and so far so good!

There will always be people that rub us the wrong way for whatever reason. Just remember that you are there to keep you sober. Stay positive and keep going to meetings. Maybe you can start a young peoples meeting in your area?

YEAH, a COMPLETE freak!!!
14.5 years ago I went to a couple meetings and I hated them. Went to one Saturday and now I'm not even welcome there cause I did it on my OWN and don't need support not to drink.
Just wanted to MEET people.
Now THAT'S FREAKY!!!!
KNEW I didn't need AA 14 years ago and I sure as heck KNOW I don't need AA now!!

Do you have a sponsor? Some things I just feel better discussing with my sponsor rather than the group. Are you doing a 10th step every night? That really seems to help me with the whole anger and resentment issues. They say resentments will get you drunk and there is nothing I hear today that will get me drunk, I HOPE
