Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

So, I'll try to keep this short....
I am going through a big change...right now, and has been for a few years that my nice apartment was being paid for....well that is ending and I am pretty scared...I've been on my own before but it has been almost 4 years...I've been talking to my sponsor about it and she keeps telling me about places that "go by your income", and I'm sure its in not so nice parts of town....I do not want to go that route...I am picky about what part of town I live in mainly because I am a single woman, living alone and don't want to have to be scared of were I live...I know my family would worry about me as well...
My question is kind of AA related in that, I am wrong or being selfish for praying to " God" that I do not have to do it her way and can find something in a better part of town....I honestly am scared to death because since getting sober, I have had to switch jobs, and make less money...I am a server (do still want to go back to school though)...working night in fine dining is always a lot more money than a early morning serving job that I have now, but its away from alcohol and I needed that...just sucks and I am scared that my circumstances will leave me no option but to work nights again...
sorry for the ramble, just soooo scared right now!!!!
Am I just being selfish? self centered?

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

I highly suggest doing the foot work on the places your sponsor spoke about as a safe guard .... I didn't and was not happy with my direct avoidance of these things and their outcome
Oh!! they say a smidgen of willingness opens a door! I've found that to be true:)

Have you considered sharing with someone? That might make living in a better neighbourhood and a better home a possibility.
If you allow yourself (key words here) to remain in a state of fear and react to events in that frame of mind, you may well miss solutions to the problem that are popping up right in front of you.
A strange and paradoxical thing happens for many of us when we completely commit ourselves to a course of action and say full speed ahead and damn the torpedoes. But it isn't just about acceptance as resignation or admitting defeat, as the commitment actually creates a new reality, not just in the space between the ears, but in the realm of facts and the direction our lives actually takes. As an old AA clich goes, if I had achieved the goals I wanted to set for myself in early sobriety, I would have sold myself a mile short.
I love this quote:
"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation) there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of the unforeseen, which no man could have dreamed would come his way."
So wrote W.H. Murray in a book called "The Scottish Himalayan Expedition." Whether the expedition is to climb a mountain or to find meaning and happiness in recovery from alcoholism, the same dynamic seems to come into play. I have yet to face a problem in living sober where re-committing myself to the basics has failed to open my eyes and mind to resources and opportunities that I literally couldn't see or imagine a day or even an hour before. But when I've stepped back from whatever was bugging or puzzling me and put the focus back on recovery as my primary purpose, I've actually begun see concrete opportunities and resources that were already flowing in that stream of events around me. Sometimes the solutions were so obvious that it's downright embarrassing to admit that the only reason I didn't see them was that I couldn't pry my eyes off my bellybutton.
How, you might ask, can anyone be so self-absorbed as not to see a solution that's right in front of him? If y'all promise not to laugh too hard, I'll be happy to provide some stunning examples from the Legend of Moi.
Know your HP has always looked after and still will. You have to trust that things will work out as they are meant to. Sometimes hard when we are going through things where we want to control and do not understand why.
I also read in your other post that you are on step 4...there will be alot going on right now within so make sure you take care of you.
Lastly....you need to do the work with this move. Don't just think things will fall into your lap....as others have said, get out and check out the areas and do the viewings. You will be looked after.
Peace to you and great to see you on the journey with us :)
You are not wrong or selfish in praying to God about your situation but perhaps you could direct your prayers in a different direction. Why not pray instead that you can discover what Gods will is for you and to be prepared to accept Gods plan.
When faced with making decisions we look at the facts as we know them and weigh up the options. However, we can rarely see the whole picture and what seems like a bad outlook for the future can turn out to be a great opportunity.
Take a look at the Step 4 prayer that deals with fear, on page 68 of the Big Book:
We ask Him to remove our fear and direct our attention to what He would have us be. At once, we commence to outgrow fear.
Today I had to go and do some paper work on ending my "situation"...It actually felt really good and freeing!!! I have fought it for so long and was so scared but now that it is in motion, it feels really good! Its not the complete end until a few months but I am trusting God for today and that feels really good too!!
You all really helped so much with your experience, strength and HOPE!!! I know I can be independent again and really cant believe how ok, even good I feeling today! :) Kind of helps that it is the warmest it has been all year! Its 72 degrees here in Ky today and is soooo beautiful out!
Honestly I cant thank you all enough! It feels really good to hear that others have gone through (or know someone) the same thing and came through ok!
I know I have a lot to be grateful for! I have OPTIONS, and it is because of AA! If I were out there on my own, and drinking, I would be totally alone and really freaking out!!! I am so grateful for you all here at dailystrength, my sponsor, the women in AA, AA as a whole and that I AM SOBER TODAY because of my higher power and AA! :)
Ok, enough of all that, gotta go pick up some girls, and then off to a meeting :)
again thank you all for helping me get a new perspective on the whole situation! :)
