Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I did have a sense of urgency about it and wanted to go through the Big Book one on one. I actually had a woman ask me who I was going through te book with and I told her who it was but that we had only met once in about two months. I would see her at meetings and we would talk, but I really wanted to get moving on the steps.
She offered to work with me and it's been great. Moving steady.
For me it was a matter of priority. I didn't want to wait. I know I made the right decision.
I'm not going to advise you... just share what happened to me. I was ready and the teacher appeared.
Wish you luck! Feel free to PM me.
Hugs
~Chris
It's a 2-way street, the Sponsor/Sponsee relationship. I meet with my Sponsor on a weekly basis - we go over the big book. We both made this commitment. Also, my Sponsor and my Sponsee-Sisters meet once a month for 3 hours. We go to all of the Area Assemblies and Committee Meetings and as many workshops as we can - together.
I would not be as far as I am with my sobriety, if all I did was go to meetings and I had a Sponsor that wasn't there to help encourage me and cheerlead me on - and WORK with me!
I currently have only one sponsor ... because my schedule is really packed with a FT job, PT school AND my AA commitments ~ which are pretty involved ... Chair of my District .... handle the schedule for the 2 county jails in my District, participating in the Correctional Facility Contact Program, and do orientations with new GSRs, plus a few other things in AA. Oh, and see a counselor once a week (I just started doing that).
I wouldn't be of any service to a new sponsee at this time until I get rotated out of my AA commitments.
Good luck talking with your Sponsor. It doesn't hurt at all to be proactive and tell her what you need.
