Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

My 11 year old son asked me to stop drinking beer for 21 days... That was 14 days ago today. Since then, him and I have gotten much closer.
Instead of drinking beer every night in the garage working on my car or listening to music, him and I are going window shopping at local tech stores, video game stores reading at night etc. We have been just doing everything together.
Yesterday we pulled up to the driveway, and he saw my neighbor out in front of his house wave with a beer in his hand, my son asked me "Do you miss drinking Dad?".. I just smiled at him and said haven't tried to think about it. He responded, you probably save a lot more money and you should feel healthier too.
The messed up part is.... even though the last 2 weeks have been something out of a book, I do miss drinking still... even though I know it takes me away from what I have been missing for so long.
I have a long path, and my goal is to get to day 21 (March 9th) and have my son see me go past that. I know that will really make him feel good, including me.

So mad at Xfinity! They're trying to charge me $115 per month for the same service I had been paying $50 the last four years. I took the equipment to UPS for shipping and cancelled my subscription today! Next door was a cookie shop called Crumbl. I had heard of it before but never went in until today. I don't need one more sugar fix, but maybe it will help with my sad) grieving heart....$15...

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I remember looking in my sons face for the first time I got sober for a long period of time starting 8 years ago (9) now.
I couldn't believe what I had been missing.
And my son was then 16...I had been drunk his whole life.
You have a lot of pressure on you to stop because he won't understand if you drink...it will be letting him down :(. And that sucks because I PRAY that you keep this sobriety..but God forbid you slip...He's In heaven right now and you sound like you are too.
I'm so glad for you that you can enjoy the moments with your son and family :). I hate alcohol....and addiction. My son is 24 now and he is not speaking to me because I drank for the past year after 8 years of sobriety.
Don't give up fighting....its worth it.
This time around, two plus years ,I didn't just quit drinking I went to work on figuring why I liked to disconnect so often. I went and talked with some other Alchies and got some guidance on how to live sober
I am glad you get to spend time with your son. That's awesome

I hope you keep your kids love in mind every time you crave another drink and think about the possibility of losing that love forever...and I guarantee, you will never pick up that drink!
God Bless!
Anyhow, your post made me think of the book I read at day one called The Easy Way To Stop Drinking by Allen Carr. I highly recommend it, it really helped me to "reframe" my relationship with alcohol, especially how I related to my kids. I used to be dying to get my kids to bed so I could "relax." I read that alcohol robs you of time, energy, money etc...something like that.....but the time part really stuck with me.
All the best,
Claire
My brother died from a heart damaged by alcohol.
Have a great week!
See how much they pay attention?
How cute.
How about a celebration dinner his favorite place?
:)
Congratulations...
I miss drinking from time to time too. Or I miss the illusion of what it was for me, not the reality. The fact is you have to want to be sober more than you want to escape/ drink. I've had to focus on the sobriety not the drunk/ drinking life.
You can do it if you want it, and are willing to do the work. It gets uncomfortable, but the upside is so much more rewarding than the brief and false" relief" that is alcohol.
