Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Well I finally did it! Drove around the building a couple times but finally made it inside. I have to say I was very hopeful but somewhat disappointed. Hoping to be put at ease by people "just like me," what I first noticed was that there were very few women and very few younger people. (I did, however, notice that almost everyone there was white-like me- however, given the diverse community I live in I found that a bit unsettling). I also found it difficulty to relate to the stories that were shared, other than that we had the urge to drink in common.
This was a "beginners" meeting, beginners could ask questions and old-timers could answer. On one hand, there were definitely some wise souls there who have been on the path for many years, and I enjoyed hearing them speak. On the other hand, some of the newcomers were quite obnoxious - I'm not trying to be judgmental, but I found it disruptive.
I'd like to try another meeting, mainly because I think the support-group format is beneficial. In the end I actually did feel glad I went. Maybe I just need to find the right group?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Whenever our group has a newcomer, we ALWAYS have a First Step meeting.
Oh and by "obnoxious" I mean people yelling at the secretary that the process was stupid and interrupting others as they shared. I'm sure by bearing witness to that it helps me realize how angry and desperate we can become. But it did make me not want to be there!
Try searching the internet for "AA MEETINGS yourlocalcity". I would suggest that you look for Big Book or women only meetings to ensure that you get a different experience.
Finding the right meeting is important and you may need to go to the same place at different times or to several places. The point is that this is about your sobriety. I liked what you said about the old timers being 'wise souls' If you go just to listen to one of them and pray for the obnoxious people to get out of their fear and into recovery you will have been outside of your own head. What I mean is that you won't be thinking about yourself and how much you might want a drink.
Good luck. Please continue to post so we know you're doing okay.
