In my early days of trying to get sober, I was in AA and I had a list of numbers a mile long so that if I felt tempted, I could call them and hopefully resist. Then when actually did get sober there was no temptation at all.
Mind you, my husband continued to drink whilst I was getting sober because he figured it was my problem and not his. He drank normally so why should he not drink? I couldn't for the life of me drink normally so that's why I had decided to quit.

We don't do the huntin', fishin' and shootin' here so I don't know if there are particular temptations. Maybe you should ask yourself how many times you will put yourself through that.

I can totally relate to this. My husband still drinks. If he drinks normally Im fine if he gets drunk I usually take myself off to bed and read my book or watch tv. Im fine around people having a drink but I dont want to be around drunks. Just reinforces to my why I gave up drunks r awful.

How is your weekend going? That would be really hard for me to deal with being newly sober. My soon to be ex drinks ALOT and smokes Pot all day but I was the one with the problem. I do that is very true but I believe you need to be supported. I'm praying for you. I know you can do it!

Perhaps you can get away with a girlfriend on the night when your husband will most likely drink too much.

Just as an update, my husband has not drank a drop since I shared my feelings with him. The hunting weekend is next weekend and I did not ask him not to drink, just shared how I was feeling. I figured that if I was going to call him out to this group, I owed it to him to give credit where credit was due. He doesn't know that I shared my feelings with you all, but I do so I just needed to be fair.

Why not ask him to take the drinking elsewhere for the night?

I think the best way too handle it is to face the truth, your body does not metabolized alcohol like a normal person. You were born with the alcohol recessive gene turned on. Because of that you can never drink like a normal person. If you choose to fight this you will lose, I know cuz I fought for over forty years and still ended up losing.
Your next question should be: Is your husband born with the same defect? There are many kinds of drunks: binge drinkers, functioning alcoholics, closet drinkers etc. If he has the same thing than alcohol is a danger to him to. Maybe a serious discussion is in order to figure out your future. I know this one thing for sure. If alcohol is in your future it will beat you, humiliate you and kill you.
