It may seem like im always moaning, believe me im quite happy an love my sobriety, BUT I live in a rural area not many meetings about but i can get to meeting every night if need be, the problem is its always the same faces an same stories, an most of the time its drunk stories, I walked out of a meeting to night because i have heard the same speaker at the last 3 meetings, all about how much this person drunk, i felt like choking him. Im not sure people round here understand the importance of talking about how we feel, an how to live without alcohol, i can actually see them squirming in there chair when i talk about FEELINGS. I know i am not to judge but somtimes its hard. Can anyone relate to me?

No meetings where I live at present, town's THAT small! I remember what you mean about "drunk-a-logues". I don't care how much or what you used to drink! Tell me how you are living on life's terms today and how you stay sober when life throws you a curve!

I keep in close contact with my sponsor, ask god for help, plenty of counseling, an recently started taking effexor after a 2 month downer but have not drunk or used illegal drug since coming into aa. Felt bad about having to go on effexor in the beginning but am so glad i did it has just leveled me out nicely. Feeling glad to be sober again.

Effexor wasn't for me, made me super hyper. I lost a lot of weight and was accused of doing other drugs. It works for others, I take disipramine, it's another anti-depressent. I'm absolutly fubar without it. My doc says that I will probably have to take it till I croak. Something about I altered my brain chemistry with chemicals. Oops!

The problems with small towns like you and newbee have is that there is no quality of sobriety to look at....I don't know newbee's situation as far as a car or sponsor....but linalq1, you say you have a sponsor....I got sober in Lexington Park, Md....my sponsor and I went to 1 or 2 meetings outside the area....we went to DC for a meeting once a week and even as far as Baltimore for a meeting.....get in a car and look for different meetings...I was told to take responsibility for my own recovery and if I am not getting what I need go find it else where....no what ifs, buts or anything else...take responsibility....

i know exactly what you are talking about. And it is one reason that i love my wednesday night men's meeting. The only things that we talk about is our current goings ons and emotions. The history of our drinking, save that for a newcomer so that they can see where you came from, but the emotions of day to day life, as well as the excitement when life gets hectic... that is what we share, and i love it.

i agree with overworked. all it takes is 2 drunks. that is all.
as for feelings, none of us who have been scarred by our lives (by touching) have less feelings. if anything, we have more. respect boundaries but love, love transcends everything. we want to heal from not just our alcoholism but our fears. i like talking about feelings because ,my family,ignored such a thing.and the horror of a small girl went on for far too long. don't blame them-but am i damaged by what happened? yes. all these years,yes.love.devonh

No i said hugging People i don`t know makes me cringe an alot of people can identify with that ACTUALLY.
