Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Positive and Negative
I don't know. The more I think about this...
I embrace it all. I really do. It just isn't realistic to be positive all the time.
I have an honest admission... I know the positive posts are meant well but IMO they are sometimes no more relevant to my recovery or sobriety than the negative rants and attacks. We need to see both. In order to appreciate the accomplishment we need to see the struggle. In order to help SOLVE the problem, we need to SEE the problem.
Some of the positive posts die off because the poster does not apply it to anything. Often, it looks like it came right out of an acme positive thinking book. Cut and paste quote, no interpretation or application to alcoholism.
This is not a criticism of the positive posts and it is not a justification for ALL of the negative posts. However, we all know how painful and ugly alcoholism is. We have sick people here who need to cry and whine and sit in their pity. It is just a part of the process. And they are going to get angry when they are confronted. Is what it is. How can we be of service?
If you followed the attack on Holycrap through to the end, you would have seen the healing that took place, the healthy support given by others, the realizations by both people involve. It was BEAUTIFUL to me because I saw it from start to finish.
A friend of mine said about parenting...
"It is important that they see you fight and equally important that they see you come to peace in the end. Let them see the battle and let them see the forgiveness. This is LIFE."
Take what you want and leave the rest. Don't like someone who is negative, then block them. This is all my opinion. I really hope I didn't offend anyone.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
HAve a great Monday.

But people REALLY get Pollyanna-ish when mental illness is mentioned and have suggested all sorts of things over the years that if I had done, would be long dead now. In fact the advice about a specific medication by a sponsor kept me on a path that nearly took me to my death as the medication was contraindicated for my conditions. (It seems the more serious the issue the worse people are at jumping in with suggestions - obviously to make themselves feel more comfortable - it's not limited to AA) If they themselves suffer mental illness and have a strong and proactive recovery, a specific dialogue is appropriate. So, of course it has gotten more and more difficult to speak about this issue in AA circles, but that's probably a common experience, but it is very isolating.
But just as if I had Cancer, which of many AA members do, making Pollyanna-ish suggestions would be ludicrous.
Having said all of that, while I know I can be a very serious person, I also like a laugh and take every opportunity to laugh at myself and have a laugh with others.
