Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I have found that I take a bit different approach to food than I do my other addictive tendencies. We need food to eat-and I know if I eat healthy food it starts a chain reaction for the rest of my day to eat right. For me-the way to trigger a chain reaction of overeating is to eat crappy food-like fried foods, processed sugar, etc. So I try to steer clear of it. It is keeping me at an regular weight-but I still have control issues when it comes to sugar late night. I seem to have not gotten a handle on that-and it really throws me. I will wake up from eating candy and feel hung over-mind, body and spirit. Not to the degree of booze of course-but it is bothersome. I am really a work in progress with this-and some days are better than others.
My advice is to commit to a healthy eating lifestyle-your body will naturally crave good stuff as a result. I can honestly say I like the taste of fresh whole foods much better than processed junk food-regardless of the healthfulness!
It is just my nightime sugar issues that pop up occasionally-but work in progress!
I am in AA and find that I need to use spiritual tools and growth in ALL aspects of my life as I have no control of my own over addictions.
This means that I learn to respect my body by eating healthily, I need to use the spiritual tools I have been given to address whatever is out of kilter.
Anyway, I'd cut yourself a break on food. But do think about *what* it is you are trying to satisfy. My guess is it hasnt got anything to do with the food you are consuming.
Congrats on the sobriety:)
With just about every other program abstinence is required for recovery but it can't be with food. We of course Have to eat to live so that makes dealing with compulsive eating a challenge of major proportions.
For the longest time one of my favorite lyrics in a Grateful Dead song was, "Too much of everything is just enough" I still tend to overdo things like exercise because it changes the way I feel.

If you are an AAer and NAer you may want to seek out Overeaters Anoyomous - same concept different addiction.
this is a prime example of where addiction is the true diesease, it's what we feed it that differs.
For myself, my addictions switched to work, mothering, sobriety, etc - i have to be very careful as i can see myself and my patterns develop at the snap of a finger -
For some food addicts, you can switch that to a healthier addiction by getting into the world of nutrition and healthy eating and exercise life style.
Peace!
I love dueling, can't decide if I like the pistols or swords better! Great at AA campouts too.
Mindlight is back
she is back!
That is what I am working on most right now. How to keep it together. Not go over board anymore. I am clean and sober. I don't eat like a horse, anymore haha. Sure did though. I fell in love with food.
Now I am trying to get addicted to the treadmill and lots of water. Lost 14 pounds this past 2 weeks already. That rocks, yes?
Gives me the drive to keep walking. I walk a mile a day. Have salad for lunch and eat sensible dinner. Portion control.
I wish you luck in what ever you do, and may you be happy doing it. =)
