Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

You live in a small town?? They will all know that you are a drunk so why would it be a problem for you to be seen seeking a solution. Pride is horrible thing because it'll take you down and smash you to pieces. Swallow your pride and get some help.
welcome hugs bill
Every recoverying alcoholic in here can see your future and believe me it's not pretty if you continue your addictive behavior.
Good Luck!
Most of that is in our heads , but it does make a great excuse if that's what you're looking for.
I also drank vodka right out of the bottle. Every day -- I could not figure out how to take a day off from it. I was not playing around either -- and you can damn well be sure that I had vodka on hand at all times, not one or two shots either. No point in having less than a tumbler full.
Yeah, not so much fun and I hated living that way, even as I planned out my next drink. I am so glad I stopped that insanity and no longer drink or want to drink.
If you want to talk about it, I am happy to listen -- keep posting or send a message. I am not in AA -- it is not for me. You can quit with it, you can quit without it -- the important part is to quit.
Good luck with the just reading. if it works for you .... wonderful. It most certainly didnt work for me. I needed a full program.
Don't rule out AA. That said, don't judge it by what folks bicker about on this board with it. It is can really get silly. I do not attend AA but it is not a black and white thing for me-I went in the past, it helped a lot, and I may go in the future. I never rule out nuttin.
This is about life or death so......DO WHAT you have to do to get better. No matter what!
See if there is any inpatient or outpatient services on your insurance (assuming you have it)? It is a good start.
You have not offended anyone so please stick around. Although I go to AA meetings and it is something that I would strongly recommend, this is not an AA site and you are free to hold any opinion you like.
If AA is not for you it is possible that you will get advice from people who have used an alternative approach. If you leave you will miss out on all of that. You can post as often as you like and you can just read; you can also talk to people here privately when the recent technical bugs get sorted out. It is a great site whatever way you choose to use it.
The people who urged you to go to AA were not having a go at you they were just telling you about what worked for them. Like you, I come from a small place where everyone knows everyone else. When drinking got so bad that I knew something had to be done or it would kill me I looked around at the options. Believe me, if there had been any other way I would never have gone to an AA meeting. For six nights every week I went to meetings in a town that is an hours drive away because I didnt want anyone to see me. After five months I finally went to the local meeting which is only two miles from home and do you know what I had been worrying about nothing. I now go to that meeting every week.
Whatever you decide to do, please do SOMETHING because alcoholism can kill you in the most horrible way. I swallowed a lot of pride when I went to AA but it saved my life. One of the side benefits is that I never had as much fun when drinking as I have now. If I was you I would take a chance on AA.
