Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I have to console myself that its just dreams.
the brain is weird, i can still taste speed running down my throat, and smell it up my nose sometimes and im awake!
im just glad that these dreams are one of the only recurring damage i done, physically im quite well considering the amount of abuse i gave my poor body!
these dreams are upsetting and sometimes it takes me a while after i woke up to realise if im really still clean/sober still,
but the more i have the quicker i forget about them as the day goes on, i guess im used to them more now.
What concerns me is your statement about "your slips in smoking and weed" Does that mean you are still smoking weed? if you are, then you are not "sober". Whether you snort it, smoke it, drink it or chew it, anything that you take to alter your state of conciousness is "using" and if you are using, you are not sober.
Ironic, I use to hate my day and enjoy escaping in dreams-now I hate my dreams and enjoy life!
My sponsor told me that when you have drunk dreams, especially when you are not going through a period of craving drinks, and have been sober for a long period,it is just your subconscious surfacing, telling you that one of your greatest fears is that you will go back out and drink again. You may not be consciously planning to,but you are still afraid of it,even if just in the back of your mind. Eventually, this is supposed to get better with time,as you have more years of sobriety, you will begin to gradually start trusting yourself again.
I get these dreams when I am in sobriety (just started abstinence again today). They are really vivid and I often wake up feeling guilty! Until I come to and realise it didnt actually happen.
Used to happen when I first gave up smoking aswell(dreamt i was smoking) but I dont get them any more so hopefully the drinking dreams will subside too.
Remember...AA says, "the only requirement for membership is the desire to stop drinking." and I have done that.
A guy shared in a meeting Sunday that he had a using dream a few days before. Using dreams usually scare the crap out of us and the scary thing for him was that he only had a couple and it was o.k.
