Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I can relate to your story and some of the others. I finally gave up thinking that a period of sobriety (longest was 75 days) would 'cure'
me. I wouldn't admit I was an alcoholic. I have a job and a home and all is well. After the 75 days, I decided a little wine would help ease the pain when I hurt my back. Two liters later, blackout, pass out, don't remember much past 9 PM. Same as GwenY, I woke up in the middle of the night thinking 'oh no, not again'. So many more times in the last year, the same story. Sometimes I only had one or two drinks then I was done. But those days are rare. I don't turn into a Jekyll-Hyde or I would have people tell me. But I know I can be a real a**hole sometimes. Alcohol seems to bring out the dark side of my personality. Last Thursday night, A half-liter or so of vodka put me into blackout, pass out. Friday I was so sick that I called in sick to work. I had the whole day to think about what I had become. Two failed marriages (and many failed relationships in between) later, I am alone. I don't want a relationship, because I don't want to chase another woman away.
I went online and found this group and began reading the stories. I had so much in common with the members here. Oh my god, I am an alcoholic. There is no cure. I haven't hit bottom like many have, but I am well on the way. Well, I made a commitment that day. Today I am one week sober. I will remain in this group for support. And I found an AA meeting nearby at a time that I can manage. I will start there next week. This past week, I have felt so much better---clear head, more energy---and I want to stay this way. I know the demon will try to win me back and it won't be easy, but I pray that with the support from this group and AA I will make it this time. If I can get my life straightened out, then maybe I can let someone back in some day without fear of chasing her away.
Forgive my rambling , flyingfree and others. But the first step is to realize that there is no cure but completely staying away from alcohol FOREVER. You have to be able to make that step.
Good luck to you and best wishes for a sober future!
. I drank for the fun and for the good times. I could handle my Liquor. As time went on I could handle more and more of it. When things got difficult I drank. Before I knew it I had crossed that invisable line.
. I knew a lot about the effects of alcohol but nothing about
Alcoholism. I said early on in my drinking career if I think I have a problem with drinking I might try AA. But by that time drinking had become my solution.
