Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
recently the owner stopped allowing us to have a "shift drink" meaning a free drink after work (I am a server)...I was actually glad but had to fake like I wasnt with others...but I see peoples alcoholic behaviors now....my manager still goes behind the bar and pours herself some wine and guzzles it...yuck and one other girl, a chef, was telling me she knows she needs to cut back....she used to always have her "shift drink" and a few more too....
I am glad that I do not have to sneak drinks...I am glad I am not in denail anymore either :)
That is very awsome that you do not have craving around others drinking...I hope to get there too....
I dont go to bars often. we mostly go for meals. Maybe I could have been clearer, also he is my safeness because I know he won t ever tempt me. So i feel safe with him.
Alcohol is going to go away. Neither will my disease. Shit ive had about 4 cravings today alone.
The situation yesterday was kinda unique - I was alone becuase my partner was outta town. So I kept myself real busy and was only going to the bar to drop off a child.
While there I had my partners kids so i brought them in for a juice while we waited on their mom.
Its just that it hit me "omg, ive been in a drinking enviornemet for 2 hrs without realising or wanting, and it was fun"
I would not deliberately put myself in a tough spot. Im careful to not get complacent.
I remember every racing thought being about alcohol.
The one thing I remind myself constantly is I put so much effort into my drinking now I need to put just as much effort into my sobreity and alittle bit more for insurance. :)
I find that it is dangerous for me, being in that mental state. You see, my disease likes to tell me that I don't have it; and I in turn would use that as an excuse to drink.
All too many times I have thought, "One won't hurt." This type of thinking always comes when my alcoholic "amnesia" rears it's head. I don't like to play with my recovery, or this disease.
This deal is patient and if I get in a space where I am forgetting what it used to be like, and what happened I am on very dangerous grounds.
"One day at a time" (AA)
Dipso, ditto! That's the ticket!
I wasn't one of those drunks who needed a "1001 Reasons why I'm not a drunk or it's ok to drink." I drink because I'm a drunk is good enough. I don't need or have to rationalize and justify it in advance.
I do have to stay on guard especially when I think I don't have to because of that "peculiar mental twist" where it "just happens" all on its own.
I will never forget in the sense of "go on, have one, it wont matter/you can handle it/ you mustnt be an alcoholic"
I dont think people totally get where my post was coming from. I will never forget the disaster my life had become and all the crap that we know comes with the deal
What i think is so bizarre is that i dont even notice OTHER PEOPLE drinking. I completely forget its an issue.
I met a man in group who drinks in a bar everynight but drinks pints of water because he goes for the social side. I couldnt beleive it when he told me. But I get it now.
I think I will discuss it with him further this week because he will get it lol.
Thanks for all the posts though, it was interesting to see everyones views.
