Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I've admitted to myself that I am an alcoholic. It's a secret I keep between myself and a few friends. I have my 2 or more glasses of wine by 8pm, before bed. Never black out, or lose my temper, but it numbs my emotions and also my motivation. I have an almost 5yr old and will never drink before bed time. Don't even like the feeling, but feel I "need" it to relax and sleep at night. It's become a problem and I feel I have no one to turn to. Hubby sits in his chair each night for hours on his computer (4yrs of doing this). Will not play games, watch a movie together or even go out for a "date" night. So the wine replaces the lost intimacy. I am also a fitness trainer and love being active and other than the wine take very good care of my health. Afraid to go to AA meetings because of who I may run into, although a local friend of mine has found sobriety through them and told me not to worry about who I might see there. I live in a small town, where everyone knows everyone. I love where I live, my child and friends, just not a happy marriage. Tonight I will turn to a book after putting my little one to bed. For his sake, I need to clear my head and get my motivation back. Be someone he will be proud of when he is an adult and reflects.

I have told myself "today is day one" so many times, but this is the first time I am putting it out there to the world so I will be accountable. Any feed back is more than welcomed!

You may be using alcohol to fill this gap in your life There are indications such as deciding not to drink tonight but still drinking Another is obsessing about the next time you can drink Having little or no control to how much you drink when you start drinking.I admire that you want to get this sorted while your child is young.Because Alcoholism is progressive so a few years down the line the consequences may be a lot worse.Changing and doing constructive things in the time we used to drink is good give yourself a little treat something you like to do maybe you haven't done for a while
I can totally relate to your fear of AA meetings and anonymity.
I have a very high profile career, and was terrified that I would be "outed." In over 850 meetings and 3.5 years that hasnt happened. I have seen people I know...and they like me are there to get and stay sober. We all respect eachothers anonymity.
I also got sober with very young children. My 3 kids, my husband, and most of all I deserve a sober me.
There ya go, Sticky sad it: " most of all I deserve a sober me." You do. Do whatever it takes to get there. Tis hard to change until the pain of change is less than the pain of staying the same. Do it for yourself, it makes it far easier to look in the mirror in the morning...

I understand also that you want to keep your alcoholism private, None of us want to blurt that out! But I would be more afraid of not doing something about it , like going to AA meetings, than staying in a private rut that will only get worse with time. There is a big relief that comes with letting go of our dark secrets like drinking. That doesnt mean you have to blurt it out to everyone, but dont be afraid to go to AA meetings. I was afraid too, now Im gald I go...
So ...Try one AA meeting ok? If you hate it, you never have to go back.
