Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Lucky for me, it's blizzarding outside, so going to the liquor store is not really an option. I've attempted to quit drinking quite a few times but manage to relapse after a day or two. I am serious about it now. I have the most amazing husband and 3 year old that a person could ask for, and they deserve 100% of me.
I'm starting to experience health problems that I can only guess come from the drinking. My hand goes numb, I shake from withdrawals. One day it was so bad that it scared me into a day of sobriety.
I wake up every day and feel guilty for caving in the night before. The nights that I don't drink, the morning after is AMAZING, but when I get home from work, I don't think of that. All I think is "There is cold beer in the fridge." (Which, there is no alcohol in my house right now and like I said, it's blizzarding, so I'm not even leaving my pajamas today.)
I want to save my own life and be a better wife and mother. My family deserves it. They say that alcoholism can be genetic. That makes sense since both my parents attended AA before I was born and my mom hasn't had a drink in 35 years. She is my hero. Obviously, it was before I was born, but I don't think my dad ever really had a problem. I think he went to AA to support my mother. My dad does drink occasionally (hunting, fishing, some holidays, and when one of his daughters gets married).
Anyway, I need to get sober for myself, my hubby, and my daughter. Any kind words are definitely appreciated and not-so-kind words might help as well. Anyone who wants to add me as a friend, I'd love to be more active on this site. I've been a member since 2007 for other support groups, but haven't been on here very often.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
Hope this time you make your decision stick -- not just for you, but for your three year old and husband. I know it might be very difficult right now, but I promise you, if you quit you will hit the point where you realize that you are missing NOTHING by being sober, there is no upside to drinking, and life is soooo much better without it. But it takes some work over time to get there.
What happens when the road is clear and you can get to the liquor store?
ExJerseyGirl asks a very serious question. Just what are you going to do when the weather clears up?
You are so right about your son deserving a sober mom. You may think he's too young to notice but kids have attennas, especially tuned in to Mom, so he's aware that Mom changes when she drinks.
I changed my kids' future when I went into recovery. God knows where they would have been if I had continued. Kids watch what we do, not what we say. I hope you find recovery soon. I found recovery through AA. Try a meeting. You may just fit right in!
Thank you both for the kind words. I am willing to work and try my hardest. I am so productive when I'm sober and actually PROUD of who I am and what I accomplish. I just have to remember what I'm capable of whenever I crave a drink. For the most part, I need to remember to log into DS to find the support I need.
Thank you both again. I will try to keep you updated!
People who attend meetings stay sober.
I tried it on my own for 17 years, and I bacame a bitter angry person.
Meetings remind me I can not do this alone.
When you are at the meeting, say something positive.
Become someone people will miss if you are not there.
Every day do something positve.
On waking give thanks for the gift of your life and your family
Recovery, Unity, Service.
It works for me.

The meetings are great, and through them I heard the truth until I could accept and in fact even embrace my own truth. But the program is in the first 164 pages of the BB and I'd recomend you find a sponsor, someone who seems to have that something that *you* want...serenity was what I wanted...and looked for in a sponsor. Anyway, find a sponsor and have her walk you through the BB, and the 12 steps. It was by doing what my sponsor told me she had done, and matching that to the program in the book, that I not only got sober but have started to really see.
The journey is a blessing.
