Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I was grateful I had my sponsors help to sort them out like first requesting permission to send a letter in certain circumstances, making amends I had not even thought of which, when explained why, brought certain clarity to the reason I had not seen. Working out the best way to settle my debts. It all took some time but the results gave me a solid footing for the road ahead.
My first instinct whenever I sobered up (and was convinced that I had "got it" this time) was to rush around apologising but that would have caused more harm than good. "Sorry" was a common word in my vocabulary and it was not enough nor was it credible.
I am grateful for the 12 Steps and the shared experience.

"OUR SIDE OF THE STREET"
We are there to sweep off our side of the street, realizing that nothing worth while can be accomplished until we do so, never trying to tell him what he should do. His faults are not discussed. We stick to our own.
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, pp. 77-78
I made amends to my dad soon after I quit drinking. My words fell on deaf ears since I had blamed him for my troubles. Several months later I made amends to my dad again. This time I wrote a letter in which I did not blame him nor mention his faults. It worked, and at last I understood! My side of the street is all that I'm responsible for and thanks to God and A.A. it's clean for today.

There is a sense of safety in AA but recovery teaches me to face certain realities (inside and outside of my imagination) that need facing and that, ultimately I have to do on my own. Now where do I find the power to do that? :)
