Daily Meditations 2/4/10
To know all things is not permitted.

In recovery, we give up trying to be perfect.
We give up trying to know everything. We work at coming to know and accept our shortcomings. In Steps Four and Five, we look at our good points and our bad points. In Step Six, we become ready to have our Higher Power remove our defects of character. Then in Step Seven we ask our Higher Power to remove our Shortcomings.
Recovery is about coming to accept that were not perfect. We admit that trying to be perfect got in the way of being useful to ourselves, our Higher Power, and those around us. Pretending to be perfect doesnt allow us to be real. Its also boring and no fun-you never get to mess up
Prayer for the Day.
Higher Power, You will let me know what I need to know. Allow me to claim my mistakes and shortcomings.
Action for the Day.
I will work at being okay today. Not perfect, just okay.

I would tell people I had to leave school early because I was smarter than the teaches they used to get me, shake me and tell me Lionel I cant teach you anything.
Now hows that for someone who spent all those years at university . Just because my head was always out the window never in the room may not have helped.
One passage help me with thinking I had to be perfect and being perfect is truly boring and no fun for me was. It was in In How it Works.. Do not be discouraged. No one among us has been able to maintain anything like perfect adherence to these principles. We are not saints. The point is that we are willing to grow along spiritual lines. The principles we have set down are guides to progress. We claim spiritual progress rather than spiritual perfection..
With Defects of character and shortcomings I was told a defect of character is something that I am doing and shouldnt be doing , a shortcoming is something that I am not doing that I should be doing.
I would use the Seventh Step prayer like a Mantra when walking of filling in time
My Creator,
I am now willing that you should have all of me,
good and bad.
I pray that you now remove from me
every single defect of character which stands in the way
of my usefulness to you and my fellows.
Grant me strength, as I go out from here,
to do your bidding.
Amen
In my case God removed every single defect of character which stood in the way of my usefulness to Him and my fellows. But all the others I had to work on all the time.
