Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I am working with a new sponsee, and when describing my last dying days of active alcoholism, I said "I couldn't stop drinking, that I couldn't NOT drink, even for a day". She went on to say that she "wouldn't stop". Am I playing a game of semantics when I think that "couldn't" indicates a loss of control, the loss of the ability to stop, whereas "wouldn't" indicates a choice being made - I could stop drinking, I just wouldn't, I just choice to continue drinking.
I think as long as we "woudn't" stop drinking, we believe we still have a choice, we can still use our will power to stop if we choose to, that we have not admitted powerlessness.
I will be meeting with this sponsee tonight, so any quick input would be great.

i married 7 years ago.....i was given a choice....love or drink......i chose love......blah blah blah......divorce...........i stayed sober through the marriage. i since fell
2 years later i met the love of my heart............i told her my problem.........we had or disputes..............and she too said "she wouldn't stop" she was referring to love.
i was blessed i have one sponsor......................and for some unknown reason He has always been by my side.
