Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Getting ready for the big blizzard. This will be my first storm trapped in doors for a period of time. The usual around these parts is getting the snow booze. Lots of funny stuff on Facebook about how much wine to get. For me I thought what should I get to satisfy myself. Especially when my husband is drinking his martinis or what have you. I try not to pay attention. I like to have something to treat myself after shoveling too. Something to share. In my "I survived the blizzard of 2016" stash I have 1 dark chocolate Hershey bar, Swedish red fish, rolos. I have a few brand new sleds. They were gifts to nephews I never saw over Christmas. Time to unwrap them. Also some chocolate covered banana making stuff. For things to do I have a fresh block of clay to throw pottery, or if the power goes out to make something from slab. I also have a new book. Stephanie Plum 22 is out and I have it. I just finished the book Unwasted. Loved it.
I have DS, ITR and will be going to online meetings. I was feeling pretty anxious about this storm the other day. Not because I needed the bread and milk but because I felt like at 2 months 18 days I'm feeling really vulnerable. Just vulnerable in general. Anticipating my 90 days coming. I was going to find a face to face meeting and unfortunately they changed the day of the meeting and I was 1 day late. I went to the soul sister online meeting for women in recovery. Very helpful in deed.
I don't want the 90 day mark to come and then I think I'm cured. The thought that this might happen makes me anxious. I tell myself all the stuff in my head to keep me going til the next day. So far the biggest deterrent for me is that I don't want to start from day one again. That's a pretty big determent for me. I think it's my competitive nature. Who am I competing with though. Myself? I like to analyze myself these days. So my conclusion is I think I am feeling this way because I know I will realize that it's not a competition. Then I might be tempted to think it's okay to just have 1 drink or 2. It's because of this feeling that I think I am ready to find a face to face meeting. I could really use some face to face friends that are sober.
So what do you all like to do when you have to hunker down? What's your go to? Got any cool games to play?

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

It may help you if you were to learn a little about why an alcoholic cannot be cured of alcoholism and why one or two drinks will bring a return to the worst days. I was going to post an explanation of why and how this happens but I think that if you research it for yourself it will stick in the mind better.
As for passing the time during a storm, the sky is the limit (no pun intended). My wife showed me some photographs last night that were taken during a power cut at Christmas seven years ago. In one picture, she is sitting by the fire trying to solve a Sudoku puzzle with a battery operated flash light on her lap. A pack of playing cards can also bring endless fun, as well as heated arguments.
There was life before television and the internet and it was fun.
Magpie I am amazed that you throw pottery. Do you have a kiln? My sister used to make stuff from Greenware! She has kiln still I bet!
Hope your power stays on! Hugs bill
I just am cooking a big steak and shrimp. I also have mint choc gelato for dessert. I don't drink

My husband is drunk as a skunk right now. He will be down for the count soon.
I love the board game scattegories. I miss playing it with my boys and their friends cause I'm pretty good at it. They would always tell me to go upstairs so I wouldn't beat them. ha...
Mags, try not to think ahead to your 90 day mark.. okay? I guess that may be easier said than done, but you are doing so well and no, it's not a competition.. It's about your peace of mind and your health and well being.. You feeling and being who you want to be. That's what matters.
The fact that you have stayed as strong as you have with your husband drinking and the booze in the house.. give yourself HUGE HUGE PROPS..cause I know you've had some really stressful days.. I'm so proud of you. Stay warm...
Love you girl.
