Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Dick Van Dyke’s path to sobriety was a turning point in his life and career. Here’s what happened:How He Got SoberStruggles and Realization: Van Dyke began drinking as a teenager, largely to cope with shyness and social anxiety. My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). No one can ever take those 122 wonderful days away from you. Thank goodness it was for only one day. Don't worry about the status of accumulating sober time. Just remember each day we don't drink is a day we can't die from alcohol and are coming closer to being the best we can be, although we are never quite sure what that is.
You made a mistake. We all do that every day. It's just in the scheme of things for habitual destructive drinkers like us it can turn out to be a pretty big one. You realize that and move on like you are doing.
I don't know if you've heard of urge surfing. You might want to google it. I found it very effective.
Sometimes talking about an urge, or fighting it only intensified it for me as I was entertaining it that way.
Don't examine why you drank, not now. Now just dust yourself off, if there is any booze around you throw it OUT...and move forward. Its a day at a time. Don't pick up that first drink today. Instead vision yourself going to be sober, and happy with a sober day, tonight.

If I add up the number of sober days I've had over the past 6 months, they far out number the days I've been drunk.
Hang in there.

You want this, you need this - and your life could depend on it.
That's the urgency we need to address our addictions with, and the irrelevancy we need to give to moments of lapse.
