Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Last year I was sober for about 10 1/2 months and thought I had this little addiction under control. I was so confident that I closed out my account with Daily Strength and stopped going to AA meetings for additional support. My first stumble was on a dinner date when she ordered a glass of wine. I had been on so many dates or at events during the previous year and always stayed with iced tea or some other non-alcoholic beverage regardless of what others had, but on this occasion I wanted to join my guest with a glass of wine. I had five glasses of wine before dinner ended. And that's how it began. Lately I've been going out about every other night hitting one of the many bars or brew pubs in my area and frequently ending the evening smoking a joint with some friends. I'm still amazed that I haven't been stopped driving on the way home. This has to stop and I'm back for some support in my new recovery commitment. I had quite a few friends before who were amazing in their support and would enjoy connecting with some new ones. Thanks for reading my post and wishing you the best in your recovery.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

Welcome back. Your story is one that has happened to countless alcoholics in the past and will unfortunately continue to happen in future. However, you now have proven to yourself the hard way that you cannot drink safely.
What I have observed over the last nine years is that going to AA meetings is not always enough. Meetings are a good place to find a sponsor and an introduction to the Steps but then the work starts. I hope that you find recovery.

itsjustme, concerning your question about my thoughts as I had one glass of wine after another, I seem to recall that I didn't really have any thoughts regarding the act, but was just living in the moment. By nature I'm a bit introverted and alcohol helps me to relax in social situations. Finding a way to chill without alcohol or weed is one of my biggest challenges. Meditation helps and I'll need to reconnect with that.
Things went downhill from there but I never put two and two together until I went through a divorce and on top of that, had a bad accident where I severed a digit. Then, I had a slip. As soon as I took that first drink, I knew instantly.....like my Higher Power wrote it inside my brain in big capital letters, that I needed to start going back to meetings again. Then I called my sponsor who said exactly what I needed to hear. He said, we tend to get complacent over time and we stop doing the things that helped keep us sober and then we start having problems like I went through. Thankfully, things gradually got better for me after that.
Good luck on your road to recovery.
God Bless
Thank you for sharing your honest thoughts and we’re glad you’re back here. I’ve been there done that, got the whole T-shirt. It does happen to many alcoholics, but the good news is that you are back and wanting to start over again!
One day at a time my friend. You can do it! We will support you through this entire process. Praying for you!
