A lady I've only spoken to a few times approached after a mtg to discuss issues she is having with her sponsor. It sounded liked she was making excuses but I entertained the conversation. She asked if would hear her 5th if her sponsor wasn't available. "I trust you" she says. I don't trust her or her motives. She has had long term sobriety and recently came back and has maybe 4 months now.
I thought I am supposed to do what I think is the right thing and I am not this is a good idea. Maybe it is a god thing. This woman is a cryer and an overt pity seeker. She is going to be sorely disappointed if she is looking for me to entertain that. I may not be the most sensitive to her because I don't trust HER.
It's just weird. I have been a little out of it this week starting some new meds and I was going to explain to her that my head wasn't clear enough to do this, but I am starting to feel better and need to stay honest, so I'm not sure how to handle this.
Any advice? My sponsor said to pray about it and I don't have a clear answer yet.

Ah, this seems important Tara. Searching our own motives, why do we act and feel as we do...part of why the other person help us more than we will ever help them!
When I think someone else is being dishonest, so important to look at me. Even where their dishonesty seems to outweigh!
In any case, my dilemma resolved itself... She just called and told me her sponsor was going to be available for her. I can't help but wonder if her sponsor is someone I know and she was using my yes as leverage to get her sponsor to make time. Whatever. It's all good.
This is what daily practice of these principles means to me. These are only suggestion after all, but if we don't look we can't see.

I can't tell you how many times I ignored my gut and paid for it.
That gut instinct is my God conscience today. It's a circle when 1 alcoholic helps another. I had to learn to trust my gut. It's ok if you don't want to work with every alcoholic that asks. It really is.
I suspect she has asked you because she is hoping she can manipulate you. Don't fall into her trap. She needs a new (and very experienced) sponsor!
