Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Noticed that sometimes a new person will join here and give very little information about themselves or their problem.
People often jump in, with the best intentions, and suggest AA.
I wonder if this is right for several reasons including:
If we dont know about their drink problem we dont know if going to AA is the right advice.
If we push AA on people too early we may spoil a later opportunity.
Attraction rather than promotion and the guidance of the big book suggest we should concentrate on sharing our own experience and wait for people to ask us about it.
Any thoughts?

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

What's troubling is when the new person says they're going to follow a path other than AA and they get comments such as "see you after that fails".
I suggest AA because I offer my own experience to those looking for help with alcohol problems, not because I believe it is the only way to sobriety. It's a good starting point, and members are free to move onto a different kind of group if they feel AA isn't the answer for them.
As far as folks who mock paths outside of AA, they actually make AA seem like an arrogant group full of fanatical, angry folks. This seems counterproductive-not sure why this is done, anger and ego issues... ? I know that cannot be a true representation of how all AA people feel.
This hostile vocal minority is so offensive, especially to someone investigating.
Also, I think that with telling someone what has worked for you, it is important to be aware that not everyone who comes to this board is an alcoholic. I read some of the posts and wonder if we can diagnose on our end with a few simple statements made by an anonymous person.
And I have to wonder if thats why these new-comers post once or twice and disappear. Their bravado in their post may not reflect their true state of mind.
