Does anybody feel like having a drink today?

This is the first question I hear at meetings so I thought I'd throw that out there.

Magpie2, things get better when we stay sober. My AA sponser told me that back in the very beginning and he was right.

Have never heard that asked at a meeting either, but to answer your question, no. The only time I miss alcohol now is when I'm cooking and have to use a substitute for wine in a sauce or dressing...

That is a question asked at the beginning of a lot of our meetings. It's usually did anybody want to take a drink. If some body says yes then they can explain the thought and we go from there. Many times nobody says anything and so the discussion leader reads something from the book.

No - and I have never been to a meeting that starts with a question.

Here it's always at beginners' meetings. It's on the sheet that the chairman goes by. I think it is to help others with their cravings in light of the newness of their sobriety.

We have alot of kids come in from local treatment programs, and one of those meetings is specifically for the first 3 steps. Another one is an "as Bill sees it meeting" in which we start off with a quote from the book and spend the hour discussing how it relates to us. It is the meeting I got sober in but not the meeting where I met my sponser.....I was just thinking....we have alot of meetings around here!

    check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

     I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...
