And Christianity

SO when my higher power saved me from the unmanageability of my disease I believed. I wanted to go back to church to worship and meet nice people. But I don't agree with everything in christianity and cant find a church that matches up. the church I did find is big believer in small groups and I haven't found one I can commit to. for now, I have AA meetings! They work for my alcoholism. has anyone else struggled with this?

There are MANY, MANY, Churches within the Christian faith. I'm not sure what your disagreements are and I won't try to start a theological discussion here, but there are many movements and denominations that focus on different aspects of the Christian faith. It may be possible to find one that focuses on the beliefs that are most important to you.
To all the other Christians out there, please don't start a denominational war over my post - going to church is a good starting point as far as I'm concerned.

Hey there, yes I am in that same spot right now. I agree there are many churches out there. I have kinda stopped looking for a church now because AA is working for me. At some point when the time is right I will find a church and it will be right for me. I am happy in this spot, just keep trying it out. You will find what you are looking for eventually I am sure. Good luck

Hi Stefunny, I never grew up with religiosity. I believed that there must be "something powerful" beyond what we know but didn't really give it much attention.

Anyway I struggled to find a spiritual path but it came to me in the end as a spiritual awakening as a result of doing the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous.

I "know" there is a God today and it is a very personal but unfathomable God. How can I, with my limited human intelligence, hope to know with certainty what He is?

I say "God" and "He" just for simplicity as in the age-old idea but I have no real image in my mind. It is more an invisible power.

Really I feel I do not need or want organised religion but I do like to be in spiritual places and churches and cathedrals - when they are empty.
