Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

So I stopped.
it was easy, not detox (my son was medically detoxed) and I went on my merry way for a while. 6 months later? I tried one glass of wine. Bad idea. I quit then for good.
Labels don't matter. The choice to realize that this is not good for us (intoxicated comes from the word toxic) and stopping is all that matters.
If you are trying to analyze it? I think it is your brain trying to trick you into thinking it is ok to drink again. There are plenty of folks out there who never drink...normies too. Why risk it? why label it? just don't drink.
The questionaire notwithstanding, if not using mind altering substances is easy for you - that is a good thing. Don't be confused, just be happy, clean and sober...
Hugs,
Dennis
If, when you honestly want to, you find you cannot quit entirely, (Can't manage your most sincere decision to not start drinking) - the un-manage-ability insidious insanity - mentally powerless
or if when drinking, you have little control over the amount you take, (Can't drink without getting drunk) - the allergy the craving - physically powerless
If you answered "No" to those two questions, you are a chronic alcoholic - an alcoholic of the hopeless variety
I didn't write the Big Book, I've carefully studied it and followed the directions therein. 48 years of life because of Alcoholics Anonymous ain't no bad deal.
As to quitting, I quit all the time. For a few days, a few weeks, a few months, even a few years 2x. Didnt matter. I drank again and when I did I quickly drank myself into obvlivion each and almost every night.
That's alcoholism.
And you...
you BROKE your neck. Hello...
Here is your old post: Read it please.....
"Well I think I really hit rock bottom this time. I thought I had before, but this is pretty bad. I don't drink every day but when I do, after I have one, I can't stop. It's like the alcohol makes me a different person. A person I don't like, yet I kept going back to drinking anyway. Well, I made a bad, bad decision last night and decided to drive home after having a few too many. I ended up rolling my car 3 times and I sit here in a hospital bed with a broken neck. I really am lucky to be alive, it could've been a lot worse. Call it a wake up call, call it a miracle, call it rock bottom, whatever you want to call it, but I know that I never want to touch alcohol again. This is it. I could've died, but I didn't. Now I need to go and live my life a little better. I hope that maybe this will reach someone and that they will think twice before they drink and drive. It is a BAD decision. The doctor's said if I hadn't had my seatbelt on I probably wouldn't have made it. As it is, I'm lucky it's just a broken neck and I'm not paralyzed. It was so scary. I've never had such a scary, but eye opening experience in my life. I didn't know my drinking was so out of control, but obviously, it is..."

If you decide that alcohol is a step up again, please stay off the road. Hurting yourself is one thing. You don't have the right to gamble with other drivers' lives.
Just be happy that you have quit and you don't miss it. And that makes sense, after all, when you really think about it, there is nothing to miss and everything to gain when we quit.
