I will be the 1st to admit that I am the fixer, but how should I handle fixing, the lying the breaking of promises to his 14 year old son. I don't want him to hate his Dad,but I do want him to see the truth. Any suggestion?

You cannot fix your ex husband, you are completely powerless over his addiction. Hopefully you'll gain a better understanding of that in Al-Anon.

In the meantime, it is not up to you to make sure your son sees the truth about his father. It is up to you to protect your child; so if Dad breaks a promise, have a plan B in place. That's all I'm going to say about that, good luck with Al-Anon.

I am assuming your son realizes the problem his father has w/alcohol....then no more needs to be said. You simply need to tell him his father will have to explain why things happened the way they did. If he is 14, my presumption is he knows exactly what is at the rrot of the problem. You should not make any excuses for the father. It is OUT OF YOUR CONTROL. Your son's father is solely responsible for how your son views him.
