Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

The popular phrase Lies, damned lies, and statistics comes to mind, which according to Wikipedia is a phrase describing the persuasive power of numbers, particularly the use of statistics to bolster weak arguments. It is also sometimes colloquially used to doubt statistics used to prove an opponent's point.
Personally, I do believe that alcohol, taken in moderation, does have beneficial effects on peoples health and as such it may indeed lead to an increased lifespan. There are some cultures where alcohol is not abused so much and people usually do not exceed a right amount as you have described it. However, in many other cultures, moderation quickly gives way to excessive drinking and in these cases, alcohol certainly does not prolong life. From severe physical and mental health problems, road fatalities due to drink driving, family break-up, suicide and many other issues, alcohol is a killer.
If you have a problem with drinking please take an honest look at your life. It is natural for people who have such a problem to look at every means of justifying their drinking and will exhaust all possibilities before finally admitting that their drinking is out of control.
I was drinking 10-12 so I was going to not live as long.
It WAS a reason I hung on to drinking for so long. Th3 justification that I would live longer, the truth is I was dieing at a faster rate when I was in active alcoholism. I was basically digesting my liver with increased liver enzymes. I had three times the normal numbers

Exercise prolongs life too. Instead of two beers, take a mile walk. For normal drinkers, they can rock on. Even when I drank, I wasn't a daily drinker.
Funny, because I just saw an article last week (I'll try to find the link) that said that latest studies (ha ha, I'm sure that will change within a week or 2;) show that moderate drinking does NOT have the health benefits that they originally thought it did. Who knows what they'll say about it tomorrow......
Good luck!
I remember the days when the Drink Driving TV add showed an old man in a bar having a couple of pints of beer with his friends and the voice-over said: When youre driving, two will do. To me that was a sensible approach as rural and village life was pub based and there was little or no public transport. Now, the old man in the tweed coat and cloth cap sits at home staring at four walls and pops pills for depression, many of the bars have closed due to a lack of customers and rural villages are dead places. Perhaps they are all victims of political correctness gone crazy.
I just know that they are not talking about the way I drank. I tried the "healthy one glass of wine every so often" program and I flunked.
I am much happier drinking homemade smoothies.
Gentle hugs.
But in my case, I could not stop with one, I stopped when I passed out.
In my case with my liver numbers as high as they are, I don't think a drink will prolong my life, it will shorten it.
Thank you for bringing it up.
This is a study of 87 studies on the subject...
