Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

In the short term, there is probably a period of re-adjustment due to withdrawal from alcohol. It is normal and generally accepted that there is a sometimes painful or uncomfortable period of recuperation after various types of illness or medical procedures so why should withdrawal from alcohol be any different or less acceptable?
A quick Google search has unearthed the following source which seems to have useful information, although I have not read through it in detail so I cannot say if it is good or bad. It may be a commercial site so sound judgement is suggested before making any decisions or commitment.

I am happy to say that I am medication free less than a year after having to start it. It was absolutely necessary for me at the time and helped me stay sober. Everyone is different though!
