Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

I had to quit all at once -- there was no way for me to cut back. I couldn't imagine only drinking a few drinks. Then again, I also couldn't imagine not drinking, but did it anyway.
I had day 1 yesterday, and the day before that, but because I still had a couple in the fridge, and I couldn't resist, today is technically day 1. Feeling pretty good the last couple of days. My episodes usually involve 1 or 2 days of horrific symptoms featuring high anxiety, profuse sweating, shaking (total body), nausea, dizziness, confusion (mostly signs of low blood sugar, dehydration and sleep deprivation), then start to improve. That's just me, of course, everybody's different.
I know that as I grow older, every time I go through this process, I can feel the liver dysfunctions getting more severe. I'm sure I have done huge damage to it, perhaps irreversible, but it does get better with basic, sensible, lifestyle improvements. It gets bad quickly, but seems to begin healing quickly too.
Thanks for checking on me ExJerseyGirl2! Your show of concern means a great deal!
That was actually my tipping point. I googled alcohol addiction found DS,I joined this site and actually started over in the wives of alcoholics. That was a bunch of sad, sad, stories. I realized that I was doing all this stuff to my wife and those around me.
And after one last bender I finally decided I needed help. I remember pouring out the last couple of ounces in the street sewer and tossing that rum bottle. Then I Googled aa and went to an 8pm meeting. The first few weeks were tough but after the booze left my system I was left with a bunch of anger, and fear. Somehow I was able to find a sponsor and I found out I needed to drill down on the reasons why I needed to check out all the time.
I went back and got another liver profile at 1 year sober and the numbers were better. At 2 years they were back to normal. Remember that alcohol is mainly sugar and so in early times a coke or a shake will stem the craving.
Hope you find the way to a sober lifestyle. Go get it
