Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
Although it may start as a choice it becomes a necessity therefore its a disease.
If by you're saying "it becomes a necessity" that you mean the physical withdrawal symptoms when you don't get "your fix", that is a reality but it also does not constitute a "disease". If you want to quit you have to suffer through it. As far as "needing" it to deal with stress, anxiety, etc..., it's a method for dealing with those mental disorders but is in itself not a disease. How can the act of choosing to pour a substance down your throat be deemed a disease? It's a behavior, an action initiated by yourself. diseases invade the body-there is no choice involved Not the case with drugs or alcohol-It is a willful choice no matter how you slice it. Fuzzy as far as what you learn from the experts about quitting drinking....the actual quitting involves nothing more than making the choice to do so, so what's there to learn? It's not that complicated, don't pour the booze down your throat. What the experts can help you with is figuring out why you feel the need to do so in the first place......
