sounds like your opinion of someone u dont know

I personally would absorb the help that others were offering and not get hostile myself if I posted a thread pertaining to addiction... Just what I would do...
I am with you 100 percent on this one . I quit the pills, powder, and smoke and then the alcohol got ramped up. Now that I havent had a drink in 120 days the smoke is back. It is weird that my mind just cant be happy with normal. MY mind needs some sort of altering. I "just need a buzz, Its friday, its a day that ends in Y..." That is the nature of addiction and I struggle with it too DCH... But I will say that pills were very addictive to me and I walked around in circles for a week but am glad that they are out of my life.. GL

u r correct 1is2. i was filled with rage for a few days there. but i felt as if people werent understanding what i was trying to say. i have hep c from 36yrs ago from sharing needles. heroin, coke, liquid morphine. kicked that and was drunk the next 32yrs. went to a thousand AA meetings and finally sobered up at the age of 49. i really dont feel that others have the right to tell me i dont understand addiction. i would never tell someone "u dont get it". i would say that that is not what my experience tells me. i was frustrated because i wrote a long comment and lost it some how. i type with two fingers so it takes me a while to put stuff down. i knew i couldnt write the whole thing over so i wrote a quick piece of crap and people, i thought, took it wrong. i tried to explain but it appeared to me noboby was reading my explanation. ive never gone in a meeting and lied, ever. people say im too open in meetings and some will take advantage of my candidness. but i dont care. as far as im concerned my life is an open book. when people say they take pain meds but they dont abuse them i think i have pain too. but just like alcohol i cant not abuse them. treating pain turns into getting high for me. my pain meds sit in my living room, a treadmill. i lost my way and it is what it is. i became spiritually unfit and gave in to temptation. thats no excuse for lashing out i will admit. and i apologize to anyone who feels like i was being nasty to them. but when people tell me that the big book is more than words on a page and imply that i dont get it and they live the book and they got 28yrs i say well la dee da lets get u a &%$#@* medal. thats not the AA i know. i would never tell someone "your doing it wrong and im doing it right and i got 28yrs". r they trying to make me feel worse? i dont need help feeling worse, im good at that myself. it sounds pompous to me. i fucked up. im not the the first and wont b the last. i thought i could control the narcotics. typical addictive thinking. i dont have a drinking problem i have a thinking problem. im here because i know i need help and i want to help others if i can. its my first step towards getting over my depression and getting back to meetings and getting back on the course i was on before the 48wks of hep c poison they gave me. its been far from easy. im a firm believer that before u criticize and offer your advice and opinion u should walk a mile in my shoes. i apologize to all for my anger

Sorry you feel you're being mistreated drc. However, we are people who have walked in your shoes. I tried everything to stop drinking. I had no choice.

Whenever I get angry at what another says/writes, it's important to re-read the comments that made me the angriest to see if there is some truth to them.

We who have been sober for awhile empathise with you. I understand the pain and self loathing that comes with alcoholism. But I'm not a hand holder. Sympathy kills many alcoholics before their time. The best thing my sponsor did was be honest with me. I thought it was brutal at the time but today I see the courage and love it took to be honest with one such as me.

My suggestion to you is to keep posting with us. Just with a little less hostility.

im just reading this and i know how easy it can be. A few weeks ago, i had bronchitis and got some cough meds with codiene. I didnt want to drink and take it and that was ok because in my mind, the codiene replaced the booze for awhile. nowim not drinking and not taking the codiene. See, i cant even spell it right. lol Very very easy, as i see it, to slip up. Cant condemn yourself for it.

gr8 im glad u posted. i apologized. im sorry if it seems im seeking sympathy. should probably get on the treadmill before i respond to some posts. i do reread comments enough to make my head spin. the thing is what the posts say r true. i know that. im here to share my experiences and i would hope others share theirs with me. i think the whole AA connection is the sharing of experiences. i feel that i have been getting advice. i know its support some r trying to give. i just disagree with some of the methods. about the shoe thing. i will have to start a new thread to comment on that later. hope i was less hostile. also ive noticed that ive been filled with rage lately. like i want to put football pads on and go out and do some hitting. im 56yrs. it would b suicide by football. theyd kill me. and im noticing some compulsive behavior on here. like i have to answer right away. alcoholic behavior. plus i dont really know what is wrong in my brain. i do know alcohol and narcotics make it way worse. i hope we can b friends and agree to disagree. i love talking to drunks about the program and the big book. cant wait to get to the shoe thread

I admire your honesty and willingness to share your thoughts and feeling here. I get it.....you understand the disease and are struggling with addiction. I think you know what you need to do. Good luck with your program and don't let others here get under your skin. You are here and that's huge.

well drcooper................my older bro was an alcoholic....an addict.....living in atlanta... amongst the roaches and macaroni and cheese boxes....jail time....an atheist....i was the only family member that talked to him (at the time)........

he has been clean for 20 years.....he told me what turned him.....to this day he has a difficult time watching beer commercials. during NFL games.

he never went to a "meeting"......his thought was...."if there is nothing more important in life......then surrender yourself to drink"
