Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

ok, so I said awhile back I didn't think AA was for me. I don't believe in God and I don't want to admit stuff in front of people. Well, after all the advice ya'll gave me I went to my first meeting yesterday and another today. I think I like it. I'm very comfortable there and the people are super nice. I really feel good when I leave. I don't know how I would figure out the whole higher power thing, but I think I'm going to try it for awhile. Thanks everyone!!!

Can you identify these rom-coms from just a screenshot from the middle of the films? This is a multiple choice quiz so even if you're not entirely sure you can always take a guess and at least have a 25% chance of getting it right anyway, so why not have a go?! https://www.buzzfeed.com/alysaurus688/rom-com-screenshot-trivia-quiz

Go you:)
No one else's "higher power" has to be yours. That's all up to you.
Just enjoy the feeling you get from these meetings and build upon it.
Good luck to you.
Good luck x
I was a bit of an ass when I started my AA meetings.
I would not even hear of any higher power talk period.
I told them the program would have to stand on it's own 2 feet
with me, and then perhaps a higher power could come latter.
With the bravado of someone who knew I was right and they
were all wrong ... I explained to them if God or a higher power
were going to be brought in to help me ... I'd have NO use for
them ... I'd go directly to my higher power and since this HP
can/could do anything he'd cure me instantly.
Well I stuck to my guns ... I kept going back ... but go easy
on the HP stuff I warned them.
This approach was satisfying to a point ... I struggled some,
didn't get the serenity others seemed to get, but didn't drink
or use others meds.
Somewhere around 2 yrs. I decided to open my mind to the
idea a little more & began to realize there was some 'power
greater than myself' at work here ... and lo and behold this
POWER WAS WORKING THROUGH THE PEOPLE IN THE
PROGRAM !
Stay open minded, BUT don't let hard core AA's force you to
move too fast ... I hung around because they said some get
it quickly, some get it SLOWLY ... and I got it SLOWLY.
I have a little over 4 yrs. and it is a miracle ... I WAS married
to a pharmacist & loved to drink, and that was who I was and
what I did.
I love this program now.
I can't believe it works for me.
It's the best thing I've ever done for myself.
These folks literally loved me, and wanted what was best for
me, long before I wanted what was best for me.
Everything I thought I hated, slogans and just about everything
they did and said ( most all of it I thought was stupid, useless,
and annoying). WAS MY DISEASE TALKING TO ME.
Keep going back and if they move you too fast ...
remember, the only requirement is a desire to stop drinking.
You don't have to make it as slow and painful as I did ...
but that's what it took for me.
I wouldn't trust or believe anyone when I arrived.
Good luck,
Jimmy
They were right, I was wrong ... who knew ?
Jimmy, I liked your post. I heard a woman share recently who sounded just like you when she was first coming around some years ago. Higher Power? Never.
As time went on, she couldn't ignore all the little "coincidences" in her life. There was something greater at work in her life and she opened herself up to It.
I know my life has changed immeasurably. Couldn't imagine doing this deal on my own.
All the best, Julie.

And ditto to whoskiddinwho. Thanks Jimmy.
I am an atheist and it has worked out just fine for me.
Happy to help anytime if you want to PM me :)
hope you stick around until the miracle happens that miracle is your sobriety on a longer term than your wildest dreams....
