AA has been working good for me,it's been a hard road,I have more things to go through,but so far,i love it and the people in my meetings are great,they make me feel welcome.

For me AA has been a life saver and a life giver. I tryed other options through the years including cold turkey, quitting for a woman, Religion church etc and never had more than 6 months sucess. I was miserable and still had no life.
AA has shown me how to live and how to get to know people with out alcohol as a starting factor. I did 90 in 90 when first starting and it was a vital part of my recovery. I got a sponsor and started working the steps immediately but then balked when it came to doing the fifth step and became angry and miserable again. My sponsor then very firmly suggested that i do it i did and it was as if the world was lifted off my shoulders. The first year was alot of work and it still is but i have never done any work in my life that has been as gratifying as this. By working the program i am now able to be happy in about any situation. It has given me a new outlook on life. I no longer have to be the center of attention. I can now be happy with my self for who i am. I can look at my self in the mirror and see someone that i like instead of hating my self.
AA has taught me how to have relationships with out expecting any thing from it. Like if you do this i will do this. That no longer exists. It has helped me build relations with my family that far exceed any i have ever had. They once again trust me and i am learning to love them for who they are. I now sponsor others and work alot with newcomers while continuing to attend several meetings a week conventions and many other functions. I find that working with others is how i can look back on the way i was without going there again. It is also very gratifying to see them grow from the pitiful mess we all once were into decent citizens as i have. This program didnt just save my life it has enabled me to get back all the things i gave away to this hideous disease. Including my Higher power who is God, family, friends, happiness, home, drivers license, car, self respect, monetary independence, humility, serenity, love for my self and others, understanding, comforting, and millions of friends all over the world.

i want too get wasted drunk and say fuck it,fuck you,forget about it for awhile.please,no AA responses,cant and dont want too hear you.real people only respond,if youd like.

Unfortunately these recent posts have disintegrated into ones of pig-headed opinion rather than open minded discussion. AAers vs RRers vs MMers vs other alternatives. If you have truly changed your thinking in the ways necessary to overcome the challenges of substance abuse, you are willing to accept that different things work for different people. I'll be waiting to see who contradicts themselves with a reply to this post, but I also see people who have multifactorial isssues that run much deeper than just alcoholism. You need to work on the whole person, not just this dimension of your illness. AA is not equipped to deal with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or other mental diseases. Likely the other alcohol programs are not meant for this, either. The bottom line is this: there is no one proven way to stop drinking. Different things work for different people. You do not necessarily possess the Holy Grail of sobriety because YOU found it by a certain method. Your naval is not the center of the universe. Offer suggestions of hope, not diatribes of narrow minded absolutism.
