I've just no idea why this is going on in America regarding AA? Perhaps some people are like Hollywood with all these catastrophic movies... So how many people will have to die in alcoholism brain-washed that AA is a cult? Or is this a joke?
I respect and love AA, originated in USA. I have exceptionally good experience about AA in New Orleans, in LA. Free country, free opinions? Lol. Soon there will be free beer advertised for those who don't want to drink. One cannot help than laugh. Like there was a campaign against people with brown eyes...
The fact is that alcoholism is a fatal illness. Seriously sick people are free and encouraged to seek different doctor's opinion. Nothing wrong with that. Seriously, I don't care that you're an AA member or not, but if you gave up alcohol in an other way, I try to learn from you - if you don't criticize me because I have brown eyes.

sorry #18 nobody tells me what or where to post. i tried to keep it "fair and balanced". i posted what i consider 2 pro, 2 against and 3 comedy. imo its the negativity and rigidity that turns people off the AA program. on a personal note. after i first joined this site i quit coming here for months because of all the "advice" i was getting about what i "should" do. the idea that some feel the need to judge and criticize suggests to me that they r not very happy and should maybe follow their own advice before dishing it out to others. or better yet here is a novel idea. share your experiences and keep your advice and opinions to yourself

It puzzles me, if any US court deems a 12 Step spiritual programme to be "inherently religious in nature," why they are so keen to send people they convict to 12 Step treatment centres and AA or NA meetings and the like. Why can't they just send these people to where they prefer - in this case 12 Step style treatment centres or secular treatment centres to avoid the burden of cost of appeals for the American tax payers?

People come to this site in the beginning hopeless because they are looking for answers because of their issues with alcohol (most anyway).

They see something like this and its a turn off before they give any recovery a chance.

I don't know about you but this particularity site is not about you or I its about helping others letting them know there is a solution to a issue we was both at one time or another.

gim totally agree with that post. I wouldnt have stuck around in the begining had I seen too much of this.

ref reply 21 I do agree with your viewpoint with regards to AA. Also I find on seemingly every discussion forum there are recognisable name posts from individuals who are constantly pushing the AA stance as the way forward. Whilst I recognise that AA has helped many people to give up alcohol, it is not the only way, and I just wonder if some of these people who have given up drinking over 20 years ago, why are they spending what seems like every minute responding to every discussion point? I've heard of 'paying it forward' but why haven't they moved on?

Heck I'm thinking about leaving right now. Not really, just kidding, but it does get a little old. I like to hear success stories not some one telling me over and over AA is the only way. If it is "part" of your success story that's cool, but to hear how it is "something I must do" that's gets annoying.
