Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
I believe her....she learned at 70 that she wasn't "cured" and relapsed for a couple of years.
Don't think she considers herself "cured" today at all! That's a loooooot of years of drinkin and experience right there. If my Nana can't take a drink at 93, I damn sure aint willin to risk it at 37.
No, I don't believe that 100%, but hey...
AA, the steps, the whole nine teaches me nothing about not-drinking. These things teach me why I am the problem and what the hell is a matter with me. I had tons of bullshit behavioral problems before chemicals.
Back to fear!! I can name around 10 people in prison ministry who are 100% changed people. They are serene, they are the real deal.
Now I also know 20-30 people that are presently sober, that stay sober driven by fear, scared to go back to prison, not county jail,,,, prison.
Today, I am a greatful recovering alkie.
But, we are programmed to see the bleak meaning of these unmentionables, even if context says differently. IOW, I sometimes over-react to the simple mention of these two words. I have to understand that not all people are hard-wired to abhor these words and that they are valid English words that are in use in general lexicon.
So, context is everything. I try to understand the person's intent and when confused, I will ask, "What do you mean by that?" Pretty simple question that can avoid a lot of confusion.
As for me. I don't believe the disease debate though I respect others opinions on it.
If you believe you have a disease I hope they find a cure. As for me, not an issue.
