I don't know what your beliefs are or who/what your "hp" is, Bob... if you're a Christian, I'd recommend checking out Rick Warrens' book "purpose driven life". It deals pretty heavilly with this topic. Not that I agree with Rick Warren on everything, but that book sure made sense to me and appears to be backed by the bible, for the most part

Bob, if I had to answer that question in just one little reply here and from my own understanding alone, it would be...

Basically, God always did and always will exist, and at some point, he decided that he wanted his own little ant farm so he could love something. He created his angels, including Satan, who he already knew beforehand would revolt and make the world a pretty horrible place, once ya scratch below the surface of that beautifull imagery, life, and goodness that God created. My guess is that he went ahead with this particular process because it would give us the oportunity to actually choose whether we wanted to love him back or not, and if we do, it's more of an accomplishment than just creating a perfect universe that loves him because it was designed to do so. My guess is that this same scene may have reoccured numerous times througout the past ad infinitum, since God always existed, although the bible doesn't mention other worlds, since it was inspired and written for us. What's the meaning of our lives? Preferably to love him back, but it's ours to do with as we see fit

Today I asked my husband why God made us have the like for sugar more than sour...why didn't all food just taste the same? it would be easier to stay thinner and healthier and it would simply be nourishment and not enjoyment..
He said: "is this like one of those what is the meaning of life questions?"
and which did come first, the chicken or the egg?
My kids asked me this in the back seat of the car driving on a trip and they were about 5 years old. they are 26 and 27 and I have never figured any of it out yet.
If I get to heaven before you, I will try to sneak back the answers.

Today I say the meaning of life is:
to increase my wonder and respect at creation,
alleviate suffering as best I can,
laugh as much as I can,
learn constantly,
practice forgvieness and compassion,
finish all the knitting projects strewn throughout the house.

I have my purpose and it fits me well. Keep seeking. When you find it, you'll know...
