Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

My stepson was released from three years of incarceration this past summer. It has definitely been an adjustment for him and like you he is a young man (22yr). Hang in there! It's a journey but you are on the right path here!
yeah the hardest thing about being released from prison after so long was that wen i got out loads of my freinds had kids n had moved on, the city where i lived had changed and there was loads of new faces, i was gettin released with a bad reputation for my past a bad rattle off the meth. so i fealt really bad about myself and was staying indoors alot. im not feeling soory for myself im just saying how i feel. i did bad to get that sentence (robbery) so i supose this is the punishment
Jay, Dont let your past steal you present Present of life, and freedom from drugs. You cant drive well looking in the rear view mirror. I am not trying to hit you with a few cute little quotes. I am trying to tell you what you did in the pass is just that. PASS People will always have things to say or think about you.. Even is none of it is true. Shoot I have been accused and labeled with things I never even did. So who cares? The most important thing is not to give up or give in after everything you have gone through. No one matters more than that, and you. No one! Stay strong you are in control no one else!
You can do this...I have faith in you. GET YOUR ASS TO A MEETING ASAP
I found recovery from Alcoholism in Alcoholics Anonymous. A few of my friends have been dual addicted or have done time but that is not who they are, it's a consequence of actions taken in the past.
One guy I have a lot of respect for was sent down for eight years and has struggled to turn his life around. He's a lot older than you, but he is honestly happy today being clean and sober.
Another friend started 3 new NA meetings in our area, he's taking an active part in courses and studies outside of NA because he wants to build his future around helping others. He has such a buzz of positivity you can feel it.
So what I am suggesting is considering going to NA and possibly AA too just to see what you think. Open meetings of AA can be attended by anyone and you don't have to declare yourself an alcoholic, just sit in and listen. Whatever you do, don't isolate, that will bring you down fast. Mix with others who understand the kind of struggles addiction brings, there's a great programme in any of the 12 Step recovery groups.
Quite a few of the people I know in AA are also in NA. Jaya, I thought my life was over but it was the start of waking up to life. It will need enough willingness and action on your part but in return you can find freedom and a direction you can shape for your life.
Here's a link to NA UK if you are interested, and there are a number of NA meetings in the Potteries. I've been to quite a lot of AA in the Area and have always had a nice welcome.

It's great you reached out here, there is always something new to explore.
You are very welcome to the forum James. Regardless of what has happened in the past, this can be the point where your life starts to turn for the better.
I have to admit that I do not know anything about methadone but I continue to see alcoholics who have stopped drinking but who are struggling with other substances that they have substituted for alcohol. As I see it the solution is the same regardless of which substance is concerned and it involves dealing with the mind. In my case I had to get help with that and I got that help at Alcoholics Anonymous. Depression and anxiety will lessen and improve if you can quit drinking because alcohol actually makes those things worse in the long run. It may also require help that only a professional can provide and it is important to look for that help if needed.
Payday on Friday is just another day so try to look on it as not being different to any other day. Make a list now of things that you can do to occupy your time so that you are not sitting about thinking about drinking. If you look back at a previous thread on 16.01.14 called What will I do now that Im not drinking it may give you some ideas about ways in which you can pass the time and they do not all cost money.
Go and dont look back... Ask for help... that was something I never, ever had done before... i was too stubborn .. and I spraled into deep dark places , alone.. now I am alive again.. go ... live.
