Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.

Someone in PDA asked what a 12 step program means to so many people and if it would work even if one doesn't have a clear cut picture of what God really is and I thought it was such an important question, I wanted to post my answer here, especially for the benefit of the newbies.
Think of the 12 steps as a journey to find your spirituality. It's not as easy as, do this, one two and three and you will be happy, healthy, joyous and fulfilled..
In our quest for physical comfort, we have pursued and even worshipped material well-being,often at the expense of emotional and spiritual health, having almost completely losing sight of the fact that spiritual health IS our wealth. And as we become spiritually healthier, we need less material wealth, but, strangely, always seem to have what we need!
No one can give you concrete answers. You must find them for yourself Others can point the way, but each of us must travel the road individually. It doesn't mean we have to travel the road alone but it also means we cant ride on someone else's coattails.
The 12 step program or the 12 step path is based on major religious tenets of the world. Yet the 12 step program is not religious at all.It is in n o way religious in the sense of doctrine, dogma, codes, or beliefs. It works just as well for the atheist as for the devout.
It is a program which helps us discover the spiritual part of ourselves, to recognize it's importance in our lives, and to live our lives according to the guidance of this spiritual Self within us, whatever we may wish to call it. We realize that the void, the apathy, the despair we have felt were caused by ignoring, rejecting and even deprecating our spiritual part On a physical plane, this would be tantamountto trying to live our livesafter cutting out our hearts. Small wonder that we seem to be having such difficulties.
Spiritual and emotional growth is not a journey of a thousand days or a thousand years. It is a journey of now and forever, but only one now at a time. I hope your journey will have many small steps, one after another and we rejoice in the thought that we will be traveling with you, though we each travel at our own pace and in our own way.
I wish you every good cheer for the most exciting and rewarding trip of your life!

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

But I also keep the spiritual door open and explore all sorts of ways to grow spiritually.
This program is all inclusive, not exclusive, so that makes it a viable option for millions of people of different race, creed or religion. Very cool.

Spiritual growth is important to me and I think I am doing okay with the path I am on.
It's good to know that AA is there and provides such a good support structure for so many.
