Alcoholism Support Group
Alcoholism is the continued consumption of alcoholic beverages, even when it is negatively affecting your health, work, relationships and life. If you think alcohol is causing you to lose control, it's time to seek help. Our group is a safe place to vent, check in, get back up if you fall, and reach sobriety.
What would you say was one thing that really helped you to stay sober?
A couple of things stuck with me over that time....I remember Oprah (I'm not a fan:) talking about setting goals for dieting, or whatever and breaking them.....that inside you realize that you are lying to yourself. Everytime you say "never again" but then you do drink again, you told yourself a lie...and you KNEW at the time you were lying.
Last thing....someone posted on here once something like "I know I have another drunk in me but I'm not certain have another sober." That kind of scared me. I had lots of drinking "rules" that I pretty much stuck to but could also feel the momentum.....how long before I hit a downward spiral and how low would I get? Maybe I'd be a bottle of wine per night housewife forever or end up a total drunk bag-lady.....no one knows!
Anyhow...after 10 months I can say I'm comfortable with being a non drinker but I'll always be ready to squash that "why not?" voice:)
