Alcohol Recovery Without 12 Steps Community Group
This group was created to explore various recovery paths for Alcoholism. We generally chose to explore paths outside of the AA model, or ones which incorporate, but are not limited to AA. Anyone wanting to learn and explore how to become free from alcohol addiction are welcome. Our main goal is to support each other with compassion and decency, while remaining open minded...

I feel so GOOD in the mornings when I don't drink the night before! This alone is good reason to stay sober, and there are still so many other reasons. It's hard to believe how difficult it can be; but I guess that is the nature of the beast. Inevitably, there is a 2 or 3 hour window in the evening that I want to drink, and it's a struggle to fight it off. But I've been keeping active; and I'm reminding myself of all the good things. It's working.
I worry about my health when I drink, because when I drink, it's excessive. I know how healthy it is for me that I quit. I wish thumper could be a little more helpful, but I know my heart appreciates it; and sponge-bob-liver too.
I get more done! I'm not so blearry eyed that I can't read, or so drunk that I can't concentrate. It just sounds so silly to say it aloud, that I find it rediculous that it's so hard to quit. It should be easy, but it isn't.
Add what you like best about staying sober... even if it's redundant, because it's still reinforcing.

I wholeheartedly agree with all the things above. I love that I can sleep all the way through the night and wake up feeling rested and refreshed in the morning. I am more productive and pleasant at work instead of pushing through a hangover. My body is healing so the heartburn just disappeared and the color in my face has returned. I feel like I am in control instead of being in a downward spiral. I love that I know and remember what I am saying and doing. Oh, and mornings are fantastic!

I'm on vacation (so won't be checking in as often as usual) I'm enjoying life in the sober lane, it's very enlightening. It's nice to be playing with the kids, instead of just sideline observing them with drink-in-hand. I still kick myself for being so hung over last year when I saw them, I was such a bore. plus, to be a better role model is good. I sleep better and feel better. I really appreciate the support here!

I love the fact that I sleep through the night, without waking up in the middle of the night with my brain going crazy. Food tastes so much better. I have energy every morning...life without alcohol is infinitely better.

Reminiscent of the health issue again, but I am relieved that I can take my evening medication without worrying about a dangerous alcohol interaction. When I was drinking, I would skip my vitamins and allergy pills (maybe it's paranoia, but if Tylenol and alcohol don't mix, I don't trust Any meds). But now I'm taking my pills at night, and I feel so much better.

I have started eating again instead of punishing myself and feeling bloated from alcohol. It did keep me going at times but when I stopped I would invariably feel tired and exhausted, not a very nice feeling. I am overeating at the moment and am not sure why but it is preferable to running on bloated but empty and not wasting as much money either. There are so many benefits, another sober day and I am choosing not to punish myself, which for me was, in the worst possible way.
