Agoraphobia & Social Anxiety Support Group
Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder, often precipitated by the fear of having a panic attack in a setting from which there is no easy means of escape. As a result, sufferers of agoraphobia may avoid public and/or unfamiliar places. In severe cases, the sufferer may become confined to their home, experiencing difficulty traveling from this "safe place."
I am 63, and have been diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety, Depression, and Avoidant Personality Disorder. I have been on meds for 30+ years. I find ways to stop myself from being happy and successful. And I isolate, withdrawing when anyone tries to get close to me. Looking back at my life, it is a series of missed opportunities and unfulfilled potential. I'm so used to feeling bad that it seems normal. I feel old and out of place in the world. It's hard to find a reason to get up in the morning.
Anyone else feel like this?
I didn't know which Support Group to post this in, Depression or Anxiety.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

First, I hope everyone is doing well, and continuing to fight that good fight! Keep up the great work on yourselves; I'm rooting for all of you!So, I started doing therapy at the beginning of the year, when I was in my most depressed state, but with my therapist, I made big changes and steps in the right direction. But, over a month ago, she couldn't take my insurance anymore, and I had to stop...
This board isn't hugely active. You could also try the one just called "Anxiety".
Have you tried any therapy? Therapy could help you to sort out the self sabotage tendencies. And lately, they do therapy over video chat, you don't even have to go anywhere.
Yea, I know those feelings all to well. The good news is that I've learned ways to manage those feelings well enough to make room for reasons to get up in the morning. Peer support, such as the kind I find right here on DS, is among the tools I use to accomplish that minor miracle. Hope it helps you, too.
Welcome aboard.
I have tried therapy, but it all comes down to me wanting to change. That's the problem...
Being an adult is tough, tough work. I have a pretty good support base and going to start meeting with a therapist. I tried medication for two days but I hated it.
Anyway, keep "troubleshooting" and hopefully we can come up with answers. The thing is to recognize the need to change and how to do so.
