Agoraphobia & Social Anxiety Support Group
Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder, often precipitated by the fear of having a panic attack in a setting from which there is no easy means of escape. As a result, sufferers of agoraphobia may avoid public and/or unfamiliar places. In severe cases, the sufferer may become confined to their home, experiencing difficulty traveling from this "safe place."

You have all been through so much...
My story...
I've been bullied, made fun of, teased, ridiculed, shamed throughout the majority of my life and even into adulthood. I still live with the aftermath and psychological and emotional pain that's come with the abuse. Scars that I feel will never fade.
Developed BDD as a result, which ties in with my agoraphobia and social anxiety. I'm unable to function as well as I possibly could. Afraid of society, people, can be emotionally vulnerable/sensitive.
I'm borderline housebound.
I'm afraid of people hurting me, in every way and have had plenty of bad experiences, like being sexually abused by people I trust, or ridiculed/shamed and physically abused as well.
I think this is the most detailed response I've ever written.
I didn't mean to make such a long response. Just feeling a little pessimistic about this situation.
I wish you all the best in life.
And don't worry about the length of your posts. Write as much as you want--it can be good therapy.
now all of that happened and there i cant change anything, i suffered enough and it does come to my mind all of that from time to time, doesnt hurt like then, it is time for me to be finaly free, in those bad times i rather remember those who helped me when i needed it the most, ones who saved my life, they are ones i cant forget how much they did for me, my abusers are out of my life and what happened did affected me, and as i said i suffered enough, im the way i am, who accepts me accepts me, who doesnt i dont care
take care and dont let past to hold you, to control you, free yourself, all of us suffered enough when it happened, scars stays, things cant be forgoten but they do can have less and less impact on our life
This has destroyed my self esteem and confidence to get out and do things and go places.
My mom also has similar issues to me so I think a lot of my self esteem issues/fear of rejection stemmed from that as well. I remember as a child she would always talk about how ugly she was and how nobody liked her. It would become a self-fulfilling prophecy because people would be turned off from her insecurity.
I ended up with the same issues. The only difference is I have internalized my feelings throughout my life because I didn't want to alienate anyone with my insecurities. Instead, my insecurities lead me to withdraw from people.
I was bullied a bit in 5th grade, but my mom put a stop to it. I had already had self esteem issues by then. I am a hothead so people didn't bother me other than 5th grade.
My older sister and my aunt was close to my family when I was young, but they became estranged from my family when my grandmother died when I was young. My aunt is now deceased.
My grandparents, aunts, and uncles are all deceased. So I never got to have that big happy extended family.
I lost all of my friends. Some was my own doing because I withdrew from people, some was out of my control.
I never really felt like I had anyone that stuck with me in life and cared for me.
I feel like I've never really meant anything to anyone. I've felt largely invisible and ignored.
The one thing that has helped me the most was a suggestion that my therapist made. Whenever my family gets into a "bullying" mode, don't get defensive or angry. Just end the conversation right then and there and walk away. How they treat me is not my fault nor should it be my burden to bear. She also recommended putting distance between the people who are verbally abusive. My dad and I still have a rocky relationship but it has improved drastically. Whenever he starts lashing out at me for no reason, I cut off communication with him for a few days or limit our conversations to just pleasantries. He hasn't lashed out at me for months and we actually carpooled to work together for a few months.
My mom is pretty much set in her ways and I just have to accept that she will never change. I've tried to reason with her but I've haven't been that successful. She has such a negative attitude about everything, which has had a big effect on my life and the lives of my siblings. She discourages us from doing what we want, but I've learned to just ignore her or tell her that I intend to do what I want regardless of her opinion. No one (her ex-husband/my dad, my siblings, her mother, her siblings, etc.) is willing to stand up to her terrible attitude and I'm the only one who was brave enough to try and succeed. It's funny because I'm not intimidated by her anymore, but I think she's intimidated by me now. My older siblings even ask me to reason with her when's she's being difficult because she'll actually listen to what I have to say.
As for my friends, I always befriended people who were nice and mean to me, if that makes any sense. Some of my friends didn't treat me with the respect that I deserved and I always had a feeling that they just tolerated me out of pity. I didn't care because I liked having friends. I liked that feeling of belonging and being accepted, even if it was just an illusion. In college, I began to put distance between myself and these "so called" friends because the friendships were just too toxic and draining to deal with. I do miss some of my friends but I don't miss the way that they treated me.
