When I acquired ataxia and it was first mild people often thought i was drunk, and got fed up of comments of been on the jolly juice at like 10am! as I was staggering along for the bus! .. I eventually gave in to taking a walking stick with me as people were kinder and opening doors rather than looking with disgust as they thought I was drunk in middle of day!!
Now I need wheelchair and communciation aid its impossible to hide really, if I try and speak and they can't understand me they judge me as been learning disabled.. at least with communication aid I can get proper sentences out in a way they might say it so they know I can read and am intelligent!!!
