This is a great post that I found that's helping both side of the substance issue, but works for any time you say no.
People on both sides need to respect each other and when someone says no not keep pestering them or encouraging them to do stuff that they don't want to do!
It doesn't matter why and you don't have to tell people why all they need to know is.
No means no!

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...
When I began turning down alcohol and asking for a soda on ice....not one person questioned me! It is none of their business anyway and my worry over what other's think of me is just my ego trying to get me to feed it alcohol.
The truth is, you don't need alcohol to have a good time. I use to work for a company whose CEO was very generous and would throw us a Christmas party every year. He never drank a drop of alcohol ever but there was a free bar at all his parties, with a band and catered meals plus games galore and this ceo would give a 20 dollar bill to dance with any of the men's wives who were brave enough to get on a table with him! He had one hell of a great time and the following monday, he would walk all through the mill and he would stop at the work area's of those who got very drunk during the previous party and he would brag about what a great time he had while being perfectly sober! He was a great example for others to follow.
It just takes one person to shine their light of Love, and eventually, everyone else will follow!
