... feel like that you could very easily "fall back" into wetting much more frequently or every night, if you stopped taking careful precautions every night to minimize your chance of wetting?
I've been thinking about this lately because I'm conscious of so many things on a regular basis -- my fluid intake at night, going to bed with an empty bladder, avoiding caffeine and alcohol, etc. -- that if I didn't do them each and every night, would drastically increase my chances of wetting the bed that night. It's become such a routine part of my life now that I barely even think about it -- but once in awhile (for example) I'll be really tired and lying down in bed and then realize that I haven't emptied my bladder in an hour and it's probably half full or more already... and I know I have to get up and empty it before I fall asleep, but it could easily be tempting just to fall asleep like that even though I would be very likely to wake up in a wet bed a few hours later.
Another time this happens is when I wake up needing to urinate in the middle of the night -- I usually have to go pretty urgently when I wake up, and so I always get up and do it, but often I'm SO tired that I really just want to roll over and go back to sleep, even though doing so would almost certainly result in a wet bed. I'm tired enough some nights that I would *almost* just choose to roll over and deal with the consequences in the morning... except that I know if I let myself get in that habit, I would only be a short step away from starting to do that unconsciously and wet my bed instead of awakening on a regular basis. So I always dutifully get up... and I think it's for the best... but I can't help but wonder sometimes.
Anybody else ever feel like this? At one level I feel horrible for actually contemplating allowing myself to stay asleep and wet instead of waking up, or falling asleep with a half full bladder instead of getting up one more time... and it's not that I ever really actually do those things, but I do think about it sometimes. I actually haven't wet the bed very much at all lately (I think it's been about 3 weeks now since the last time!), but if I weren't as diligent as I am about taking care of my bladder needs at night I feel like I could easily be wetting 2, 3, 4 times a week or even more. I think it's worth the effort to not wet the bed but it seems like it takes so much effort sometimes!
Anyway, I'm curious to hear if any of you all ever think (or have thought) about this? How do you motivate yourself to remain diligent each night even when it feels tiring or burdensome to do so? Thoughts?

In 2013 I had an accident resulting in spinal injury at the base of my neck with paralysis from there down, spasticity (muscle contractions and spasms) and double incontinence. Anyone else have the same experience? It's a good observation -- it is worth it to allow yourself to fall back into reliance on wearing protection, if the reward is being able to sleep through the night without worrying about getting up? For me it doesn't seem worth it, at least not so far... but what do the rest of you think?
Did you ever figure out the cause? What changed? I have had PNE my entire life, although I no longer wet my bed every night. But more nights than not.
I had a cancer scare, and started a new job, and got back on my old blood pressure meds, all within the span of a month. I started wetting several times a week. After a couple of weeks I picked up some diapers to prevent such frequent washing.
In any case, most of those issues resolved themselves (I'm still on the meds though), and I think that over time the wetting has increased. I definitely use the diapers rather than getting up, if I wake up for some reason, or just roll over and go back to sleep. Over time I think the amount that I wake up has decreased, and the number of wet mornings with no memory has increased.
