Adoption is the legal act of permanently placing a child with a parent or parents other than the birth parents. Whether you are looking to adopt, putting your child up for adoption, parenting an adopted child, or just thinking about it, this is the place to discuss.

The last week or so I have been down in the dumps, and the closer it has gotten to mother's day the lower my spirit has gotten. So I wrote a short letter to the mother I never knew in hopes that I would be lifted up somehow. Here goes......
Dear Mom,
This is the first time I have called you mom. I have usually just thought of you by your first name. I'm sorry that I will never have the opprotunity of meeting you, at least in this life. I believe that we will one day have that chance in the next life, because I believe that there is life after death.
Anyway, I am writing you this letter because I have such a buildup of emotions inside right now that I feel I am going to burst if I don't get some of these feelings out.
First and foremost I want you to know that the love I have for you is so deep that I cannot find the words to put them in!!!! You gave me life. You brought me into this world and thought about my welfare. You were hoping for the chance at life that you never had. When I first found out that I was adopted I was so angry. But after I found out your story I cried because of your unselfish act of giving me the chance that was never given to you.
I wish that you could meet your grandchildren, there are 4 of them. And yes, you also have 4 great-grandchildren. They would all make you so very proud!!
Even though I know in my heart that you did the best that you could for me I often wonder what it would have been like to have been raised by you. I know that life would have been hard, but I just wonder.........
It has been very hard for me celebrating Mother's Day. There has always been an empty spot in my soul. This year is no exception, except this year is the first year that I actually have a picture of you. One of your daughters, yes my half sister, sent me a picture of you. Now I have a face to put to those thoughts of gratitude and love that I feel for you. It is such a strange, but very sweet feeling. I really don't know quite how to describe it.
My life has changed tremendiously since I finally found you and your 3 youngest children! I'm sorry that your youngest son died so horribly, and so young. I know that he is in heaven with you. I am going to be meeting your 2 youngest daughters, my half sisters next month. I can hardly stand myself I'm so excited. I never thought in a million years that I would ever have this chance!!!!
Well anyway, I just want you to know that I love you from the bottom of my heart!! Thank you for all that you gave to me. Oh and by the way, Happy Mother's Day!!
