Has anyone had any experience using a surrogate? For my husband and I, using my egg or having me carry a donor egg aren't options. But all I can keep thinking is, if we used his sperm and a donor egg with a gestational carrier, I'd only have to wait the normal amount of time instead of having to go through the waiting and insecurity of not knowing if its ever going to happen. Or worrying that a birth mother could change her mind on us at the last minute and have a baby taken away from us once we've gotten our hopes up. (This is my biggest fear).
Of course then I feel so guilty for being greedy and impatient because I know there are so many children out there who need good homes, and the cost of something like that of course. Is this a crazy idea or am I not only one who thinks about this sometimes?

I would be in the same boat as you. I would need to use donor eggs and my husbands sperm.
The plus side to the surrogate is all the legal paperwork is done in the beginning, there is no legal chance for the surrogate to have the baby and decide to keep it.
The downside is the cost.
When you cannot carry a child yourself the ways to creating a family are difficult. There is a lot of waiting and not many guarantees or the financial aspect is ridiculous.
You have to figure out what is emotionally, physically and financially right for you.
