My husband and I have been working on an open adoption for some time. We've been finalized with homestudy and other paperwork since late March. Since then, we've had numerous birth couples look at us. The one thing that keeps coming back time and time again is that our biological daughter (who is 7) has high functioning autism and the birthparents don't want their baby raised in a home with a child with special needs. It just kills my husband and I. While I understand their opinions, it breaks my heart. I've gotten to the point where I am wondering if we should stop the adoption process. My husband would like to continue, so we've agreed to give it until March when our homestudy would need to be renewed (good for 1 year in the state we live in). Anyone else facing this or have any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.

I can understand both sides - With that being said - The fact that your daughter has autism does not disqualify your family from being an adoptive family. Have you ever thought about going through your state's foster care system to adopt? That's what my husband and I did. True, we didn't have a new born placed with us - but I do have two very handsome little boys now. It might be a good option for you.

We are respite foster parents already. Our agency has a very negative view on fostering to adopt as they call it. If it presented itself, we would definitely be open to it but we aren't seeking it as that's not the main purpose of fostering. Glad it worked out for you. I think it's great for the child or your case children. Thanks for posting.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus).
